Review Title:   Metropointe Is The Worst Place To Live.
Reviewer:   Anonymous
Review Date:   2/5/2008

I have enclosed the official letter written to Metropointe from residents/students. The apartment building is supposed to be a student living that comes with shuttles, computer labs, gym area, a great parking deck, your own bedroom and bathroom that comes furnished, with a great student prioritized atmosphere. It is quite the opposite.

Due to the neglectful treatment we have received from Metropointe Lofts staff persons; we decided that it was high time to issue a list of grievances as far as the conditions of Metropointe. Prior to signing a lease, we were lead to believe that Metropointe could sufficiently handle our housing needs.

Fire Alarms go off in the building from 2seconds up to an hour, in the middle of the day or at 4am in the morning. The shuttles are not run by Metropointe and if they cease to run, youre shit out of luck. The computers have no internet access (why the hell else would a student use a computer?) The buidling was infested with ants and bed bugs upon moving in August 2007. There are holes in the wall, and graffiti everywhere. There is NO security, they have minimal "courtesy officers" that walk around in big yellow SECURITY shirts and dont do anything but talk on their cell phones all day. In the event of an emergency, you have to go and let the police in YOURSELF. The police do not have immediate access to the building. The people in the leasing office have the worst attitudes ever, they are not helpful and will not work with you in the least bit. And this place has the NERVE to be $715 a month for a 4 bedroom set up. Which means you have 3 roommates, and if you dont like your roommates-oh well. Metropointe will set up a mediation meeting where you and your roommates are supposed to work out problems and remain living together. JOOOOKE.

Here is a copy of the letter outlining the main problems of Metropointe.

To whom it may concern;

Fire Alarms The biggest concern brought to our attention were the lack of urgency to restore the default settings on the fire alarms. Fraudulent signs were strategically placed throughout the buildings in August upon our arrival which suggested that the buildings were experiencing false safety and fire alarms. The fire alarms continue to sound at the most inopportune times and Metropointe personnel leads us to believe that residents are responsible for repeatedly sounding off fire alarms. However, our faith stands firm in the fact that there is a flaw in the fire alarm system itself. This is unsafe for a multitude of reasons, the most prominent reason being that if there was really to be a fire, residents would ignore the alarm just as we do now.

Security The lack of constant security in Metropointe is alarming. To begin, access to the parking deck is unlimited. Anyone can drive their vehicle into the parking deck and stay for as long as they like. Prior to signing a lease, Metropointe mandates that a resident purchases a parking permit for the parking lot. This practice is ludicrous and outdated due to the fact that personnel doesn't walk around checking for parking permits, rendering this practice useless. Basically, anyone can park in that oversized parking deck. After the stranger parks, they have absolutely no problem getting into the buildings. Doors to the buildings are left open, and the keys to open them are also obsolete. The doors are held together by magnets, and any reasonable amount of force can separate the magnets and the stranger has easy unauthorized access to the buildings. There is no way to feel safe in Metropointe Lofts, especially when the men walking around with Security uniforms have been re-named by the Metropointe personnel as "courtesy officers". According to Rachel of the Metropointe office, these security personnel are not in fact security. They are simply courtesy officers not authorized to carry weaponry, which means they have no real jurisdiction when it comes to ensuring the safety of the residents. Rachel tells us that the courtesy officers were employed to ensure that residents aren't setting of the fire alarms. This is almost comical since we all know the fire alarms in the building are not a result of students setting them off, but rather a default in the building. In our own personal experience, our apartment 423 was burglarized February 2, 2008. Non residents occupied the building, terrorizing its residents and ultimately were responsible for the theft of several electronics and merchandise from our apartment. When we reported the incident to Metropointe Leasing Office, the representative Rachel had the audacity to inform us that the theft was part of living in Atlanta, and that it was to be expected since nowhere to live in Atlanta is safe. Not only were we appalled, we were outraged at the fact that safety is not a priority in Metropointe Lofts. Metropointe Personnel The staff employed at Metropointe is substandard, and that would an understatement. Managers are not present on the weekends, and should concerns arise during the weekend, they will be put off until Monday. Prior to signing a new lease, Metropointe representatives do their best to shine a positive light on the conditions of Metropointe. The personnel employed are not personable, and are quite useless. If the person does not hold a management position, he or she will do everything they can to avoid solving your problem. In essence, they are more of a hindrance than a help to the residents of Metropointe. The Metropointe personnel regard us residents with an almost arrogant attitude that discourages residents from going into the office.

Conditions of Metropointe The conditions at Metropointe are deplorable in the least. Common areas i.e. hallways, stairways, lobby area and elevators are unkempt. There are holes in the walls of the stairways, trash in the stairways and hallways, and there are gang symbols and graffiti all over the elevators and stairways. Hallways are sometimes white with the CO2, the substance that comes from fire extinguishers. Elevators are almost always not in service; they emit foul odors into the building and are usually littered with garbage. The internet connections to the computers in the lab have been severed since September 2007. A computer without internet access is virtually useless to a student. In the morning hours of November 5th 2007, a pipe burst in the hallway of the 3rd floor, causing a flood on the 3rd floor. The water flow penetrated the walls and seeped under the doors, causing water damage to the residents' belongings. In our own apartment 423, water penetrated the hallway from room A. The whole hallway was full of water, and we had to place towels on the concrete floor to alleviate the water damage. In August upon moving in, the apartment was swarmed with ants. There have been reports of mice from our fellow residents. Every time we open a certain cabinet in the apartment, it falls off. This makes residents such as ourselves wonder where this $685 a month is going to; if no extra funds can be spared towards upkeep.

In closing, we are extremely dissatisfied with the overall condition of Metropointe. The premises are substandard due to lack of security, constant fire alarms, rude employees and detestable living conditions. We sincerely hope you will take all of these points into consideration and respond accordingly. Should our complaints go unheard, we will follow this statement with legal action. Thank you.
