Review Title:   Staff Issues & Lack Off Response Make This A Bad C
Reviewer:   Anonymous
Review Date:   1/11/2006

The following is my opinion and is based solely on my personal experiences with Savannah Midtown. Your experience may be completely different. However, based on the ratings below, I doubt it. The negative stuff is towards the middle and end. There are many positives but not enough to overcome the negatives and for me to recommend this place to you.

There is a narrow entry to the parking garage, but it's of minimal concern and you become used to it quickly.

The parking garage has ample parking but the spaces are narrow, difficult to park in, and many of the residents are careless. If you do not want your door dinged this is not your place to live. The parking garage is also easily accessible to people who do not live in the apartment complex and break-ins are common. If your car is broken into, the Atlanta Police department will likely NOT investigate the crime and only take a report by phone. In addition, while there are working cameras located on some of the floors the office staff will not review the tape of the crime. It should also be mentioned that many residents use the parking garage as a race track; seeing how quickly they can get to the top or bottom. You will here tires squealing at all hours and you should look both ways before crossing any drive area.

The hallways to the apartments are wide and easy to move furniture in and out of. They are often clear of clutter but you may be stuck with the neighbor who decides to leave his/her trash out on any given day, even if it isn't trash day. If this happens you may have difficulty getting the office staff to remedy the problem.

The apartments are extremely spacious and the appliances are nice and in good condition. As with any apartment they may not be the most efficient so expect your electric bill to be moderately above average. The carpets are of poor quality, but that is to be expected, and the HVAC units are loud and intrusive. The floor plans are nice and allow you maximum flexibility in designing a layout.

Noise is a VERY serious issue. For the first 8 months living in my apartment I would not have believed it. Now I have 3 extremely noisy neighbors. There are several complaints about noise on this site. Please take it very seriously. I have written a letter to the management however based on their history of lack of response, I do not anticipate a swift response. Also, note that complaints that the fire alarm will go off as many as 3 times in one day are accurate. I have live here for 1 year and 5 months and I cannot honestly remember how many false alarms we have or how many of those alarms where 2 or more in one day. By day I mean 24-hour day. We have had alarms at 11PM 12AM 1AM 4AM (contact the fire department for exact times and details).

The grounds (grass, trees, shrubs, benches, and sidewalks) are very nicely kept and if you have a pet, there are plenty of friendly pets in the neighborhood for them to get along with.

Now for the bad stuff. As the title implies the staff, specifically the management staff at Savannah Midtown, have continued to display a lack of concern for the safety and security of their residents through their actions. The management staff has on several occasions stated that they will take care of a problem, and time and time again, repeated requests are needed to rectify even the minutest issue.

While it may sound like something you can live with you may want to give careful consideration to what others are saying on this and other sites. A rating of about 20% should raise an alarm for you.

Getting gates repaired, fixing burned out lights (that create places for people to hide), and repairing and fixing holes in fences should be a priority for an apartment community concerned about its residents. Unfortunately each item listed above took repeated requests to the management staff to fix. None of these items where fixed in less than 5 days and at least one took many months.

In my opinion the crime rate at Savannah Midtown is very high. It is rare that I have met a resident that has not had something stolen or has not been confronted by a trespasser. I'm quite sure surrounding communities also experience a high level of crime. If you live here please be aware that you WILL NOT always be informed when a series of crimes happen. This is unfortunate because if you are kept informed you have a higher likelihood of keeping your eyes open for suspicious behavior.

Adding the management's culture of lack of response to an area with a high crime rate creates an extremely frightening environment. Several of our friends have moved or are moving from these apartments because of these fears and we (my girlfriend and I) are next.

Finally because of the environment created by the lack of response by the management and the crime rate in the area, we are essentially prisoners of our apartment after dark. My girlfriend does NOT take our dog out (even in the gated common areas), and I have recently purchased a handgun for protection inside our apartment.

I urge you to pull a police report for Savannah Midtown Apartments (and surrounding communities) and review it before moving in. I also urge you to read the comments from others listed on this site and carefully consider what they are saying and what you believe their motivation is. If someone has several negative things to say because they were burglarized, keep in mind that crime happened at this community and should be factored into your decision. So should noise, and complaints about staff.

For those of you thinking this is only the negative people on this site, ask yourself, "If it's such a great place where are all the people that cannot wait to tell you how wonderful it is." Then ask, "How many more people have negative stories that didn't know this web-site existed." I was the later. I mean it sincerely that if I had read this site before moving in, I would not have made the mistake of moving in. Please email me if you have any questions about anything I have written.
