Apartment Reviews for Piilani Garden Apartments
BEWARE! Don't believe what they tell you

I agree with the other reviews that mention that the front office staff are helpful and friendly....BUT there are a number of things that are very concerning.
1. When I moved in the OWNER interviewed us and told us they were VERY selective about who they allowed to live here and not to worry about undesirable people. What they mean by "selective" is that as long as your check clears you can move in. It is all about the $$$$.
Ex. Our neighbors are in there early twenties, all single males, who have loud parties, curse, smoke, URINATE in the backyard (large patches of brown grass can attest to this) EACH UNIT HAS TWO BATHROOMS!!!! DISGUSTING!!!!, constantly spit (GROSS!!!!) and stay up ALL night playing video games with people coming and going at all hours of the night. What a great place to raise a family, right? How am I supposed to enjoy my lanai with constant spitting, cursing and outdoor urination going on?
2. Upon moving in you are immediately told that you will lose a portion of your security deposit for carpet cleaning and repainting. NEITHER of which were done when we moved in. I asked the head of the maintenance crew to acknowledge that the large dent/black mark on our wall was an indication that painting had not occured and he disagreed (with a lot of attitude) and said that "his man had definitely painted" How did the mark on the wall get there? His response "oh the cleaning crew must have done it after we painted". Does this make sense to anyone? Sooooo before I even move in I am already on the hook for at least "a $200 light repainting" because of having it cleaned.
3. You are responsible for your parking spot and mailbox.
Ex. If someone vandalizes the public block of mail boxes. YOU have to pay for them.
4. They claim that they are environmentally friendly. They use solar power for the streetlights and water and recycled water for the landscaping. I commend this because both are very important. HOWEVER, they only care about the environment when it saves THEM money. They pay for the street lights and water so it benefits them to do this. DO THEY HAVE RECYCLING SET UP FOR PLASTIC, GLASS, PAPER, and so on...NO...why? Because that type of environmental care would cost them $$$$$. They would probably just increase our rent anyway to do this if they had it so the mile drive to the recycling center is probably worth it in the end.
I am sure others residents have better neighbors, don't care about recycling, and have kids that draw on the walls so my complaints do not matter to them.
The Piilani Garden is a nice place to live relatively speaking. If your choices between places to live were between "poor" and "good" then the Piilani Gardens is your choice. IF a "great" option ends up being built then no one would stay here.
Well, except for the low class trashy kids in the frat house next door :)
