Is This My Apartment or is it the Wild Kingdom ( over a year ago )

I moved into an apartment in Hyde Park owned by Mac this year. I was impressed with the appearance of the leasing office, the patience and presentation of Annette the leasing agent, and I felt like they really had it together. Boy was I wrong. When I signed my lease, there were a couple of things wrong with the apatment (cracks, holes in the walls, leaky faucets)Annette assured me that everything will be handle by the time I moved in. I also asked her about an infestation problem, she told me that I had nothing to worry about, no bugs of any kind.
When I picked up my key and proceeded to move in, I noticed that no work had been done. Also as I was moving in the tenants informed me of a rodent and roach problem. They wasnt lying, I killed a bunch of roaches until I spend about 30 bucks on bug proofing my apartment. I also still have ladybugs, centipedes and spiders. I just gave up on it.
In addition to the things that haven't been fixed, I developed a leak in my ceiling. The maintenance people just came and painted over the stain, the leak is still there everytime it rains. Did I mention that the halls are rarely swept and mopped; there's still a blood stain on the wall of the hall way from when a tenant was arrested.
I'm not a complainer at all but this place is a dump. Not because of the place itself but because the management sucks. O and yea, they just informed me that they would be going up on my rent by 16%....another thing Annette lied to me about, she told me 7-9%

let me preface this by saying that like the 3 other reviewers, i too lived in my unit when it was bought by Mac from K&G. K&G owned about half of the apartment buildings in hyde park for 30 years and ran them to the GROUND. They were truly slumlords who did not care about the facade orr the lobby of their buildings - i was embarrased to bring friends over. if there was a good (?) thing with them is that once i told them i was a student they were willing to rent to me - no credit checks, no background checks.. which meant i had an apartment right away but also meant i could be living next door to a criminal and not know about it. i was worried that when mac bought it it would go condo. also i did not get a quick response to some problems with my plumbing. I went to the office to complain and was pleasantly suprised at their level of customer service. they had just inherited 30 yaears of maintenance problems from K&G which made sense why they took a while to respond. i got an apology and the problem was fixed soon after. they also returned the security deposit that i had given to K&G and made it possible to pay rent and submit work orders online. THey did hike up my rent more than k&g had but the difference in service and response time is worth it. The person i leased from still knows me by name. now every time i submit a work order i get a followup call on how it went.

I have lived in a Mac property for 2 years and have not had any major problems. When I was referred to Mac by a friend, I went to the leasing office and was toured by a leasing agent. I told her what i was looking for and She showed me a studio thats all new with upgrades. I knew exactly what i wanted and I am very satisfied with my apartment.
