Review for Okonski Corporation Apartments

I cannot believe some of the negative reviews for Okonski Corporation. First off, I know that the landlord and the staff take great pride in having happy and satisfied tenants. They shovel the snow immediately. They keep the front of the building looking nice with a iron gates and good landscaping. They keep the hallways clean, and the trash is emptied quite regularly. The laundry room is always clean and the machines work. Ivan is the custodian, but his mother Drina and his father Zadrow work assiduously on any problems that come up. And for thirty years, they have had Mike, who knows just about everything there is to know about fixing things.

Every time I have had any problem like a leaky faucet or a door that needed alignment, they have taken care of it without any hassle on my part.

I know that security is good and they keep an eye out for any trouble. It is a good neighborhood and they are very much on top of anything that needs attention.

At great expense, the landlord just put in (in 2008) new windows which provide much better insulation and I know that cost a pretty penny. There have been many other upgrades as well: landscaping, roofing, etc. The landlord has even called me several times over the years to tell me that the elevator is out since he knows I have difficulty doing the stairs and the elevator is always fixed within a few hours. They really are on top of things. Unlike many buildings that have a management company running the building, this firm is run directly by the landlord and his staff. He is there every day from 12 noon to 4pm. He is not hard to reach and any call gets an immediate response. In fact, the custodial staff lives in the buildings so they see any problems first hand. And when you call a special number, you're reaching the landlord at home. How many landlords and owners make themselves that accessible?

I have no real knowledge of the parking situation since I don't drive, but I can tell you that other tenants are quite satisfied. In fact, there is a waiting list for parking facilities since reasonably priced parking in this neighborhood is hard to find.

Yes, from time to time, as all buildings do, we have had roaches, but they come every month for extermination and all you have to do is put your name on the list. Also, they recently did the whole building. With regular extermination, my problem is quite minimal. I believe that the landlord considers this to be an utmost priority. They also work hard to keep the trash shoots and the garbage containers clean.

Location could not be better. You are a five minute walk from the lake, and public transportation of all kinds is readily available. I have to take a cab at 5am and never have a problem getting one right out on Broadway which is two buildings away. There are restaurants and coffee shops galore on Broadway. Argo Tea, Intelligentsia, Wilde, Hotsu Hana, Suri, Bamee Noodle Shop, Chili Mac, New Tokyo, New Peking, Chipotle, Casbah, and the list goes on. It is a very convenient location with CVS one block south and Walgreens one block north and several banks in between.

I don't know who wrote that it is noisy because I have never found that to be the case.

The air conditioning is good, the appliances are good. I have carpeting, but some people have hardwood floors. They genuinely try to accommodate the wishes of the tenants and for a building that is not on Lake Shore Drive or Sheridan Road with a doorman and rent that is twice as much, it is well run and quite reasonable.
