Positive Apartment Reviews and Ratings
This is the best place to live in Dekalb. ( over a year ago )

Unless you are willing to buy a $250,000 Krpan town house, you will not find anything better than Prairie Creek. Even though it was right next to the train, they didn't keep me up at night or otherwise bother me. They are in a nice residential neighborhood, and close close to NIU without being in the "crazy college kids" area. My carpeting was brand new, the apartment was freshly painted, and the appliances were also all like new. The lower level isn't actually a basement, and the room on that level has a window and is almost exactly the same size as the master bedroom - it was perfect for a second bedroom, or office. I doubt you will be able to find anything as nice as Praire Creek in Dekalb for the same price (they are actually the same price as the disgusting Pittsley town homes).

The office manager was very accomodating and got us into out townhouse within a week. She treated us like a second mom. She even let us extend our lease for another two months when we needed extra time, without charging us extra.

I have lived in Prairie Creek and can say that maybe the old manager didnt get stuff done, but let me tell you... the girl in the office is great and the Maintenance shows up and gets the job done. You have your own garage 2 car and driveway. You cant really hear your neighbors unless there on there balcony and the Trains... they are not a problem I would recommend this place now!!

These units are not a good value. They are definitely overpriced for the size, location, and amenities. The townhouses have two levels, but the lower level is a basement level - dark and cold, and not all that usable. I wouldn't want to spend much time down there. They are located right next to train tracks. A train runs through several times every day. In addition, the balconies are not freshly painted, the carpet needs to be replaced, and there is very little storage space in the units. Perhaps if the price were lower they would be okay for a student or a young couple starting out, but at this price you should be able to find something roomier and quieter in Dekalb.
