I moved to this apartment complex because I was in debt and needed to save some money. From day 1 it was a nightmare. I moved in September of 2003.
In early October an eviction notice was posted on my door because the office had lost my rent check and move-in checklist which I had hand delivered to the office and put into the mailbox in the office in the presence of the apartment manager and several other tenants to save him time as he was waiting on other tenants. When I called him he said that is not unusual for us to lose checks, go ahead and put a stop payment in and write us another check.
During the Winter of 2003 I had to be towed out of the street outside of the free lot as I got stuck in the huge hole that formed there as there had never been snow removal and the hole was 5 feet wide and 5-6 inches deep in front of the gate for almost 10 days that winter.
I had clogged drains when I moved in. I was told it was common for the drains to be clogged in my apartment as the kitchen and bathtub all drain into one small area. I used draino consistently and have used hair traps in my bathtub, but the drains still did not work well. The water was a nasty color and I have to use toilet bowl cleaner to clean my bathtub and remove the buildup. Three months after my second drain call I was billed because they had found some grease in the drains. Since then I made sure I was draining all my grease in separate containers but the drains still clogged. Needless to say I dit not calling that in to avoid being billed again.
I had bugs for two years (the entire time I was there) and exterminators have worked on my apartment but to my knowledge there is no systematic system of exterminating the entire complex which is necessary to keep bugs out of living quarters as close as the ones we live in at Meridian Shoreland. I also emptied out all my cabinets at request of management in yet the office forgot to put my apartment on the list so I had to wait another week and continue to function in a kitchen where the contents of my cabinets where stacked outside of the kitchen. One night I dropped the lid from my toilet into the toilet tank and water was gushing out. There was no way to turn the water off as the turnoff knob was rusted. I called the emergency number and no one responded. The security guys tried to help me, and I was knocking on neighbors doors. I even called a plumber myself and he could not help me figure out how to turn the toilet off. Finally a neighbor found a cell phone number. The security people also found that cell phone number, and when they called lmost an hour after my first emergency message was left none had received a page. There were 4 floors with water damage due to the fact that the toilet shut-off valve was rusted and inoperable, combined with the problem of the emergency system not paging in a timely manner as the message indicated.
One day I had a wet floor and the maintenance guys told me it was from a broken dishwasher. By this time I had given up on trying to get them to see what was wrong. I had to call the state department of health in to inspect and the complex was sited. It took them more than one inspection to follow the simple directions of repair to remove the mold!
