And fortunately the management didn't penalize us for it. The fences were all falling down when we moved it. We had brand new carpet, but the floor in the kitchen was really dirty, closet rods were missing, stove was supposed to be replaced before we moved in and wasn't, living room window had a screen off-kilter and wasps had built a nest in the window, mainenance never took care of that, but my dad did, shower didn't work and took almost two weeks to get it fixed (and I was very pregnant when I had to climb in and out of the tub for the bath--Yikes!), the pool never opened because they couldn't find anyone to staff it (we lived there from March to October 2003). Four ice cream trucks a day, some dealing drugs to the neighborhood teenagers. Noisy, noisy, noisy neighbors in the court, but fortunately the neighbors immediately next to us were really awesome. Lots of fights broke out, cops were called to the court (which we were told was the "quiet" street. The manager seemed like she was trying to make improvements to the neighborhood, but the managing company wouldn't give her the funds, so she had us write a letter detailing all our complaints and we were allowed to break our lease without penalty, so that was really cool, but it sounds like she's not there anymore (we were there 2 years ago). In short, we did not feel safe at all, especially after I witnessed people dealing drugs right in front of my apartment out of the ice cream truck.
