Review Title:   Worst Rental Experience Ever!
Reviewer:   Anonymous
Review Date:   11/1/2006

With out a doubt this is the worst place I have ever lived. Being only 26 I have lived in nothing but rental apartments since I was 18 and have never been in such a terrible place with a truly incompetent staff whose we dont care unless you are 65 years old attitude doesnt help anything. If you are thinking about moving here, please take a minute to read my story and dont even waste your time here&

The office will sell you on large apartments at low cost, but trust me, you get what you pay for. The floor plans are huge but that is truly the only thing this apartment complex has going for it. The cheap carpet has fallen apart when simply vacuumed, the air conditioning cant take your place below 75 (if it is even working at all) and this winter alone I have had 5 calls in to get the heater to actually work. The Comcast Cable access here is so poorly installed that even the basic features cant work thus making service basically a complete waste of time and money.

When I first visited the complex I was told how it is such a great place for young couples and professionals. What I wasnt told was that it was formerly a 55 and over community and many of the residents are still living here and DO NOT approve of younger generations. I moved into an upstairs unit above a retired couple who has harassed me none stop since my move in, but the trouble started even before that.

When I signed my lease, I was told that I would have full sized balcony yet when the agent was unlocking the door for my move in inspection 2 MONTHS LATER, she mentioned that it actually wasnt the apartment she had told me it was when I signed and that it had a ½ sized balcony. The agent also new that I was breaking a lease to move into Sommerset Lakes and that I had to be out of my apartment on Sunday and that my move in day was Saturday, leaving me just 24 hours to move all belongs, which left me screwed if I complained at the time as at midnight that night, I had no where to go.

3 days after moving in, I received a complaint that my dog barked day and night and that my downstairs neighbors had complained and that if I didnt stop my dog from barking I would have to get rid of her. 3 days into the lease& I introduced myself to my neighbors at this point and gave them my phone number telling them to contact me if they have any problems or concerns and I would do my best to take care of in an attempt to be a good neighbor. I talked to the office manager who claimed that I lied on my application for my dog because they didnt see any boxer in her picture that I supplied with the application. Even though all her adoption and medical paperwork (supplied from the humane society) states that she is a boxer, they were trying to say that she looks like a bully breed and there for couldnt stay in my apartment. I explained to them that the Humane Society wouldnt lie about the dogs breed on their paperwork but they made me go back and get more proof that she was in fact a boxer. (This just shows how out of touch with any real life concepts these people are.)

A few days later I had a note on my door from the office explaining that a $25 fine would assigned to my monthly bill since my dog was pooping in the neighbors garden below my sad little patio. I went downstairs again and explained to them that it wasnt in fact my dog, that she hadnt been on that side of the apartment EVER and that I would again appreciate them calling me instead of the office first.

The couple then told me that I was a bad dog owner for working from 9-5 and that they were concerned with the well being of my dog. Insulted beyond belief I went out back to clean up some other careless pet owners droppings trying to make the best out of the situation.

From this point on I received an unbelievable amount of complaints from the office concerning my neighbors. These people would wait until myself or my girlfriend would be walking out of the apartment to corner us and complain about the most INSANE things for a couple living in an apartment such as hearing us walk, hearing my dog jump off the bed and that OUR TOLIET SEAT SHUTS TOO LOUDLY!

Every day above them has been terrible and the office has done nothing to help us aside from saying deal with it to both parties. I attempted to get out of the lease saying that I was not at all happy there, it wasnt even the apartment that I signed for and that they only take the side of the elderly tenants. While I was waiting to hear if after 4 weeks of living in this hell hole, the maintenance men came to fix my air conditioner for the third time (it didnt work at all when I moved in back in May, as in wouldnt even turn on) and left all the contents of my patio storage closet out on the patio when they were done which included a guitar amp which I found ruined when I got home because it had poured down rain that afternoon.

The office basically told me to piss off about getting out of the lease because they only care about making money and had me tied in at almost $1000 a month for the next year unless I paid the almost $4000 to break the lease. Seeing as how I just broke a lease to move in to this terrible place, I could not afford it. They were extremely rude and uncaring towards my situation at all.

Needless to say that nothing has gotten better at all. I finally put a stop to the neighbors pounding on their ceiling every time I walked to the kitchen or playing a little with my dog (on average three times a week) by yelling at them and attempting to file multiple complaints with the office for constant harassment (which accomplished nothing because the office holds true to their The older tenants have lived here for a long time and we have to honor that which is complete bullshit for anyone under the age of 60 who decides to move here).

The moral of the story is this, please dont make the same mistake I did and get caught up in a place that offers 1600 square feet for $900 a month because it truly isnt worth it at all, that is unless you are 839 years old or a complete shut in who doesnt make a noise. I cant have my friends over for dinner, I cant use my surround sound system, hell, I have to be careful on how I shut my toilet seat if I dont want to get a letter taped to my door. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPLEX AND IF YOU CARE ABOUT ANYONE WHO IS LOOKING AT SOMMERSET LAKES, WARN THEM AND TURN THEM AWAY!!!
