Positive Apartment Reviews and Ratings
Is an OK place to live ( over a year ago )

I lived in the Greens in a 1 bedroom apartment. Rent was reasonable, and included free basic cable. A carport was a little add-on, although they given their design provide very little protection from the elements. Full size washer and dryer in the apartment was nice.
Management is nice, and the complex is pretty quiet and friendly. It's a large property adjacent to a golf course. It's definitely aging and showing signs of wear. The property is gated, which sounds like a nice benefit until you realize the gates never really work properly. When asked, Management had a prepared line of "someone's coming soon", and the gates never really get fixed. I don't think they were locked the whole time I was there.
The clubhouse is nice, and the pool, although old, is large and mostly clean. The hot tub works most of the time, although they decided to exclude all children under 16 from it which was a pain because I have a 10 year old who always wanted to use it. The fitness center was advertised as 24-hour but for some reason they decided to close it at night now.
The 1 bedroom apartments are small and because of their location, offer little privacy. There are two large windows, but each is right by the adjacent apartments' door. So if you leave your blinds open, people coming and going can watch you like you're in the zoo. Not a big deal, but something I didn't think of when I looked at them. The furnace is in the bedroom ceiling and is very loud. It's all electric, so not very efficient in the winter.
The apartment was not very clean when I moved in - it smelled so much of smoke that I ended up washing the walls. I washed the windows, and my rags were black, they were so dirty, it's like they had never been washed. Pretty poor of them not to clean better on a new rental.
I thought of moving to a two bedroom apartment and asked several times for listings of open apartments. They didn't try very hard to get me into a 2-bedroom, which surprised me, as I would have locked in for a longer lease. It just ended up making sense to move somewhere else to a much larger apartment for a small increase in rent.
If you look here, make sure you find out exactly where the apartment is and then check out the parking situation. Some have very full parking areas, some don't.
Make sure you understand the details of the "free golf" associate membership if that's important to you .. it's not free because you always have to pay for a cart, and youre not high on the list to get tee times.
I think they keep a pretty high occupancy rate here, but there's also a great deal of turnover. As in all rentals, the sample apartment they show you is much nicer than what my apartment ended up being, and they are very hesitant to show you your actual apartment until you sign the lease, "because it's not ready yet".

The Greens of Shawnee is a great apartment community! The layout of the two bedroom is perfect for roommates! Everyone that comes to see the apartment loves it! Only two downsides of living here: #1...parking! #2...it's not in a very convenient location!
