Review Title:   Decent, But You Can Probably Do Better

There's supposed to be a courtesy officer here. At least, that's what the lease and the owners say. I see his/her car maybe twice per month. There's a substation on the corner, about 0.1 miles away, which is good. The apartment complex seems safe, some parts are well lit, but it's still bordered by bad neighborhoods, and I often see questionable people roaming roadside near the complex. Parking was fine for a while. The lease says there's a 2-car limit for apartments. We got new neighbors (multiple) in our building, and they have 3-4 vehicles each. You won't park in front of your building, but the walk's only about 20 seconds most of the time. They're frequently doing work on the complex, which is good. The apartments are old and bordering on looking shabby. However, the maintenance keeps them looking...quaint. Management is what you'd expect anywhere else. Our own maintenance problems took about 2 weeks to resolve. The apartment's condition is questionable. There are light switches everywhere, but most of the switches don't control anything. There's not even a light in the bedroom. The lights for the closet and the bathroom are not located in those respective rooms, but elsewhere in the unit. The doors seem hung haphazardly; the insulation there is not good. There are multiple spots on the wall that are week, seemingly from water damage that was just painted over. The noise level is the worst. One of the major selling points for me was that this was a complex for "quiet professionals" according to their ads. This might hold true for most people. I have complaints with only one loud neighbor who will hold parties (disobeying the "non-party policy" they apparently advertise but don't enforce). They will open their doors AND blare music while playing DDR and singing karaoko, etc. Reports to management did nothing. Reports to the local substation did nothing. Having to go to bed after 3am every night because management won't confront partiers is a big, big downfall. Teakwood IS convenient to LSU (10 minutes usually) and BRCC (25-30 minutes). It is on the bus route, which I've never used because of the quality of people who wait at the bus stop here. It takes < 10 minutes to get to the Mall of La and Perkins Rowe and the accompanying theaters. The "country" or "meadow" environment they advertise is also outdated. A church, a condo unit, and a neighborhood have all sprung up next to the apartment. What used to be sprawling land is now cluttered with progress. There are no good views from the apartment windows (either pool, parking lot, church, sewage ditch, another apartment). There is no courtyard or garden style. (I'm just going off their site's listing of amenities). There are PLENTY of fast food and restaurant choices within 2-10 minutes, a major plus for me. All in all, it's an okay place to live. They've been raising the rent, but the quality's stayed the same. I think you can do better for your buck. I think this place is best for an LSU student who's not going to be home much and just needs a place to crash. That said, I think there are cheaper alternatives that will offer just this. I know when my lease is up, I'll be gone, and I won't be recommending it to anyone.
