Apartment Reviews for Oakcrest Towers
Not worth the rent

My sister has lived in this complex for 5 years and I've lived for just under 1. We both grew up in the neighborhood and have watched its unfortunate spiral into poverty, violence and desolation over the last 15-20 years. Oakcrest Towers is NO exception.
Though the buildings are sturdy and the grounds are pretty well kept, management is HORRIBLE. We have been without air conditioning since mid-June and its now late August--no joke in DC heat. Though our balcony is covered up to 2-inches thick in bird droppings, management has only cleaned it once in the last year and has done nothing about the horrible pigeon porblem that has left the balcony wholly unusable. Work orders have been ingnored, attitudes are nasty in the rental office and you're generally treated as a nuisance, even though you pay relatively high rent.
Also, The crime rate is astronomical--as two women, we never, ever come in past 10:00pm alone. I've heard so many stories of car thefts, muggings, beatings and shootings. I comforted another resident who was mugged at gun point the night before. My sister's car was stolen 2 years ago and was broken into just 2 months ago. The 'security patrols' are laughable, if not a danger in themselves. Its all true--you can look at the local crime reports yourself at washigntonpost.com.
The funny thing is, we live in the 'safer', 'quieter' and 'older' section of the development. These problems multiply by 10 if you end up on the wrong side of Silver Hill Road.
Would NOT bring children into this environment. Look for places towards the north of the county--thats where we are headed.
