The Good and Bad of South Pointe

Let me start by mentioning, apartments are apartments. Unless you are going to pay overy 3,000$ a month in rent there are certian things you just live with. South Pointe isnt exceptional and its not bad either. I will start with the Pros.

Pro's:
Great Location. strip malls. Mall of America 2 miles away.Literal minutes to downtown Minneapolis. 494 is just a steet to the north with on and off ramps very very close.Bus Routes right there at the building, Walmart across the street, Walgreens across the street, Big-open-beautiful city park behind the complex with a nice clean playground for kids. Floor to ceiling windows in bedroom. Large layout for the square footage. The staff is awesome, take it that you are curtious, decent, and not a trouble maker. They will really do all to make you feel welcome and your needs are addressed quickly. Maintenace how ever a litte slow is always friendly and through. It takes away from having to gently remind them to come a few times. If you want something done always talk to Deb and Joyce. This apartment complex does things periodically for its tenents and has really nice BBQ's and get togethers to meet other residents. Pool is normally always sparkling clean and well maintained. Grounds are impecably cared for to almost annoyingly cared for. Fenced in yard in the back. Halls are sparkling and wash rooms usually pretty clean. All in all this apartment is a very average to above average place to live with or with out kids. Generally safe, since there are cops always around due to the stores in the area. They pull people over on American Blvd multiple times during the day. That can be a good thing and a bad thing for you depending on your driving habits. North of 494 is scary, dangerous, and I wouldnt walk there but south of it is residential and pretty safe neighborhood. This is a section 8 renter so you will always have a few undesireable people living there.

CONS:
Noise from traffic is horrible, as well as airplanes taking off. Busy streets (little kids). Playground at apartment is tiny and due to amount of kids and type of kids can be not plesant. There usually is alot of children here and most are well behaved, however there are some families living here with terrible language, and horrible manners. This is a very mixed ethnic area to live in, you will find every race here, some people dont speak english at all, but generally are nice people. Just have to watch out for the rougher crowd. Parking is mainly outdoors and exposed to elements. May not find parking close to your building. Limited Garages. Garbage is a good walk away. Entrance to complex is very limited and getting across the street to get out and go west on American Blvd can be difficult at times. No sidewalks in front of the buildings on the street only dirty mud in spring and grass and not to mention NO way to walk during winter unless some one trudged a path for you. Some Apartments are very outdated, Bathrooms are small and some look very very old and dingy. Kitchens are TINY boxes, enclosed and appliances very small. If you like space for cooking and doing dishes this is not the kitched for you. Windows I mentioned are floor to ceiling in bedrooms, however they are drafty, and impossible to clean on the outside. Sliding doors are solid but old and very very drafy, if you are facing on the north side in winter the heating unit can hardly keep up and is darn cold. Hot water heating, is inconsistant and you either freeze, or so hot your in a sweat house. Also it makes for putting furniture in the bedrooms a hassle and really takes up alot of room. Carpets in some are old and very stained ALWAYS be 100% sure to document everything before moving in. Or they ask you about it. Noise is normal apartment noise from your neighbors. Walls are particularly thin and floors are wood and creak all the time. If you have kids I would be sure to live on the bottom floors or face all your neighbors complaints. Air conditioners are old, energy eaters in some apartments and dont really cool the bedrooms in really hot weather. SQUIRELS over run the place, so never leave your porch open or they sometimes come in. They are bold and obnoxious. Laundry rooms are tiny, in some buildings there is one washer/dryer for 10 apartment. They are old, outdated, and very small capacity.

I lived here 2+ years. I hardly had any problems. I really enjoyed my stay minus a few issues. I cant praise the staff enough! Joyce was always so nice and bubbly and great to the kids. Deb is proffessional and very pleasant. Quick to fix things. Get on there good side right away and you wont have many problems at all!
