I lived at 1830 Stevens for only 6 months. Right after signing the lease I read the previous horror stories and was nervous. Luckily I didn't have any major run-ins while I was there. They were usually pretty quick to repair things. The apartment was beautiful but had mold under the bathtub. John, the building manager was great to work with. I had two lockout situations, however, where it was impossible to get a hold of anyone. Moving out was the biggest problem. I had signed a six month lease with UPI, and a month before moving out, I figured I would send a friendly reminder just to make sure they remembered. I got a call saying that I had to give 60 days notice to vacate. But the lease said clearly that I was moving out on the date specified. After looking closer, I did see that it said to give 60 days notice. The person I talked to was very rude and I hadn't even started yelling. I think she just deals with a lot of angry people. UPI also took out $200 from my security deposit for an administration fee! My advice is to read the lease carefully - they put a lot of bogus stuff in there. And don't break anything. :)
