Review for Evergreen Point Apartments

In March, 2006, I was 6 days late paying my rent - first time since I moved in 10 months ago - my son had been in the hospital for a week and with all the anxiety and confusion I simply forgot. As soon as I realized it I called to let them know I would be dropping off the check the next day. I dropped off the check, but the next day I rec'd a call telling me that I had to pay a late fee - how nice of them, first time paying late because my son was in the hospital - I said I would drop it off that day. Well, no that wasn't acceptable because I was supposed to be paying my monthly rent in the form of a money order or cashiers check, so they couldn't accept the check I had already given them or one for the late fee. I rec'd no advance warning that they had decided, out of the blue, to enforce this. The manager claimed she sent me a letter telling me this around Jan. 25th - I did not receive a letter. And besides, if she had sent me a letter, then why did she accept my Feb. rent which I paid with a personal check? I had been paying with a personal check all along, on time and not one NSF, and this was the first time they had refused to accept it. So here I was, rent late, trying to get funds transferred from my out of state bank so I could get a cashiers check, and I get served with an eviction notice - on the same day I was told my check was no good and I had to pay with a cashiers check. As my sister put it "even kidnappers give you time to get the funds." I ended up hiring an attorney, who talked me into settling, which in hindsight I deeply regret - they were totally in the wrong. So be forwarned - this is not the kind of place that decent, hard-working people want to live!
