Horrible Property Manager (Ashley) ( over a year ago )

Reviewed by: Anonymous
Deer Valley really was a great place to live. Very quiet and spacious. However, the property manager, Ashley, is extremely snotty. She can be very rude and inflexible. I lived here for a year and really wanted to resign but did not just because of her. If they would get rid of her then Deer Valley would be a perfect place to live.

I am leaving deer Valley because I am buying a house. I moved in 3 years ago and Ashley was more than pleasent on making sure my move in was great. They made sure it was smooth and I was taken care of. Other than the staff the location was great and it was just a nice place to live.

[The aforementioned woman and/or other Deer Valley staff submit 5 star recommendations immediately after actual tenants give neutral or negative reviewsusing the same phrases and terminology each time--s/he must have the IQ(s) of a houseplant to think that this slips under the radar.] But I digress. On to a REAL review. First,to put the complex into perspective--this is a three college town that is flush with 18-22 year olds in nearly all of the apartment complexes (MU has freshman over-enrollment issues and has taken over a couple of other apartments in town as off campus housing for students). + 1)To its credit, Deer Valley seems to maintain a slightly older, quieter variety of tenant. +2)unlike Kelly's Ridge, its West Broadway doppelganger, Deer Valley is less expensive (or at least was in '08) and has fewer buildings, thus easier to access and find a parking spot.+3) With regard to the "perfect location!!11oneoneeleventy" claims--I suppose this is true..but this is also Columbia,MO, not NYC, it's not like it takes an hour to get across town, regardless of where you choose to live. There's a Wal*mart and grocery within walking distance, with a couple hair salons, cell phone stores and casual restaurants within their respective plazas--the same could be said for most of the other apartments/condos in town. Well, except for the neverending apartment universe known as The Links, on the other side of town.+4)cosmetically equivalent to or slightly better than other rentals in its price range, nice pool, included basic extended cable package from Mediacom. - 1)poorly and cheaply insulated, even for an apartment. Enjoy the sky high utility bills in the winter. -2)As in the vast majority of apartments, indeed, you can hear everything through the walls. -3)Lacks some of the amenities other complexes have such as a bigger laundry/gym facility or WiFi, but as I previously mentioned, these tend to be the louder, student oriented places. So I guess basically this post can be summed up as "what the three dozen other folks said", Minus the bogus reviews left by the staff. If you're new to town I'd definitely check Deer Valley out, however, along with Katy Place, Country Club, RiverBirch, Kelly's Ridge, etc.(I'm sure I'm forgetting at least a couple of other places).

I have lived at Deer Valley for around a year. I have enjoyed my time very much, due to a variety of factors. First off, Deer Valley is located in the heart of Southern Columbia. Everything you need is within driving or if you prefer walking distance. In addition, I pay $580 a month for a very spacious and well kept one bedroom/one bath unit. It is actually $550, plus $30 more for a washer and dryer. I looked around at other places and I could have paid less, but I feel I am getting an excellent value because of the excellent amenities, location, maintenance, and security that is being offered. Basically put, your money will be well spent.
In addition, if you put in a maintenance request, whatever issue you are dealing with will be handled in an efficient/timely and effective manner. Along with this, the apartments are lighted up at night providing excellent security and the grounds are well landscaped and kept clean. Finally, if you need anything from the office staff they are very friendly and more than happy to help.
I plan to move out in February, for personal reasons but will miss my time spent living here and feel that I will never find an apartment this great again.

I really enjoyed living at Deer Valley the time it took me to go to work was so fast, it seems to have everything near by... Walmart, my bank, carwash ect...
As far as the apartment complex itself it was great, my dishwasher needed to be fixed a couple times but the office was always so nice and the guy they called always came that same day.
I did pay rent late one time so watch out for any fees.
Beside that I loved my unit I had lots of space and I really didn't see my neighbors.
I have recommended it to many people that I know.

I have lived in Deer Valley for 1 year. They do have an age restriction of 22 or older. But, after moving in, the majority of people living here are graduate students. So, when school is out, it is empty. But, when school is up and going...it is busy. Very very nice units. A little expensive, but worth it. I have never felt unsafe at all. I did not have any noise problems either. The only bad things were that parking was not the best. Sometimes I couldn't park near my building due to the lack of spaces near my apartment. And, the office staff is kind of dingy and not super helpful. But, I never had a maintenance issue, apartment is super nice and safe. I would recommend.

I have been very happy renting from deer valley apts. The location is wonderful and kept very clean! They have also been extremetly organized and accomadating to any requests I may have had over the last year. I enjoy that this complex is not over run with college students like many of the other apartments in this college town!

I have been living in Deer Valley for 2 months. The appartments are in excellent condition and the staff is willing to make our life easy and comfortable.
Furthermore, not having a car is not a problem because the apartments are close both to Mizzou campus and to shopping areas (Walmart and Rockbrigde shopping center).

Deer Valley is a really nice place to live in Columbia. We looked at apartments all over and this one was the most reasonably price. The staff has always been very nice and accommodating. I have referred friends to Deer Valley and they love it too!

There is no better place to live in Columbia, MO than Deer Valley Apartments. The newly built units are fabulous and the wooded view is breathtaking. I enjoyed watching deer and other wildlife in my backyard from my balcony on a regular basis. The very few times that I did need maintenance of any sort in my apartment, that staff was there in no time to make sure that my living standards were outstanding. I was so fortunate to be living in such a beautiful home that exceeded every one of my expectations for a luxury apartment, and I am very sad that I must leave!

Deer Valley apartments not only have fair rent prices and a great location but the staff do everything possible to take good care of their tenants. Maintenance responds within the day when possible and the office staff is attentive and friendly. The units are stylish and functional. Spacious closets and double vanity bathrooms make the apartments feel luxury. Having gone to Mizzou all through undergrad, Deer Valley is the best managed place I've lived. I would recommend this apartment complex to anyone looking for a place to live.

The apartment complex is nice and the maintenance staff is good. If you don't have to deal with manager, it's pretty a pretty good place. The manager is un-willing to work with you, at all. They rent garages but they're hard to get but the manager has two or three.
Also, why is this an "apartment review" site, by the looks of the "reviews" on Deer Valley, it looks like a bunch of advertisements. The office staff at Deer Valley seems to be aweful busy writing "reviews." What's the chances there won't be another raving review in a few days?

I am very familiar with this apartment complex and some of the problems that have developed. There is no doubt in my mind that most of these reviews are written by Deer Valley Staff (manager). I find that a horrible way to do business and deceiving to the public.

I am in the process of moving to Kansas City and am very sad to be leaving Deer Valley... this complex is brand new, very beautiful, spacious inside and the management is fabulous. If I could reasonably keep on living here and commute to KC on the weekends, I would seriously consider doing that. Living here at Deer Valley has really spoiled me for living at other apartment complexes...
You will love living here! Kudos esp. for Tommy, the head maintenance guy. He has been unfailingly kind and polite, and always gets the job done quickly. Really great staff around here!

This is the best apartment place in Columbia. Not only it is brand new with a great pool and fitness center and business center, but the office people are so nice and helpful. The apartments themselves are adorable inside with plenty of space and a great patio/balcony. Construction is still going on until sometime in August 2007 so that makes parking a bit difficult at times and they can be a little loud and annoying at 7 in the morning, but that will soon be done!

If you are looking for somewhere to live, it would almost be silly to live anywhere else. LOVE IT!!
