Renovation of Building Underway ( over a year ago )

Reviewed by: Anonymous
To be clear, I am a single female that feels safe renting in a facility with gated access, such as Walnut Towers has, and that is my number one priority. I am a long term resident, having spent over two decades residing here, and was happy when the owners acquired financing to renovate the building so that there would be an apartment building available in the downtown area for individuals like myself who are too rich for subsidized/low rent housing and way too poor to buy a condominium.
I am going to divide my comments into the following key areas: location, property management amenities/appliances, noise level, trash pickup, value/price, and parking.
Location: As a person who depends on city transportation, I can assure you that Walnut Towers is in one of the most city transportation accessible parts of Kansas City; getting around is easy on the Metro and MAX. The building is situated close to two of my favorite places to hang out, the KC Central Library and the City Market. I am sure some would be much more interested in its proximity to the Power & Light District that has been built since I first moved in and the new nearby Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
Property Management: Management welcomes you and takes care of every apartment rental factor that is important to you. Whatever and wherever you are looking for, I am sure Katie, the Leasing Manager, can help you in your apartment selection. Katie came on staff about the time I was relocating to my newly renovated apartment and she went out of her way to make it an easy move. The Maintenance Supervisor, Curtis, responds in a very timely manner to any requests for repairs that I have asked for. With the buildings recent renovation I feel he will do his utmost to keep it in good running order and safeguard its inner workings for current and future residents. In order words, if I owned a newly renovated building, which I never will, I would want someone maintaining it that is willing and capable of keeping it in top notch condition. Suzanne is our new Building Manager and she has past experience managing apartment buildings. Since she just came on staff I cannot offer further input regarding her.
Amenities/Appliances: The building now has new energy efficient windows and the lobby area has been expanded to cover a larger area than it did pre-renovation. Apartments now have central air/heat, a washer/dryer hookup option in most units, dishwasher, and built-in above the stove microwave. There is a new laundry room for those who choose to keep using a shared laundry area opposed to having a washer/dryer in their own apartment. Remodelers are still working on the gathering room, fitness center/aerobics studio and tanning beds area, but they should be available soon.
Noise Level: The floors/walls are concrete and that makes a huge difference in what you hear from other apartments or do not want heard by them. I find that following the golden rule, do unto others . ., is especially relevant to apartment living so I keep my noise level down. I appreciate that people residing in close proximity to me keep my interests in mind and I am sure that should I ever have a new neighbor move in who is not apartment building golden rule acquainted that office staff would intervene.
Trash Pickup: I appreciate the fact that I do not have to take out my trash -- you just leave it in the trash receptacle space off the kitchen area and maintenance comes and gets it through a door outside the apartment.
Value/Price: Since the renovation of the apartment building there was an increase in rent but when you evaluate the rental rate asked for apartments now it is suitable for what the building now offers that it did not have pre-renovation (see Location and Amenities/Appliances).
Parking: There is underground parking available for residents with vehicles, but as I indicated in the Location section of my narrative I am a city transportation rider and do not have a car to store in the parking area but I figure that would be a plus for those with private transportation.
So come check out this place; Walnut Towers could be your new downtown Kansas City residence!!
