Apartment Reviews for Briar Hill - Bronx

I have lived here for 6 years and the management has become steadily worse over time. There are some very wealthy tenants here who can easily afford the $3K and up rents for the junior 3 bedroom apts so they get catered to, but everybody else in the studios, 1 and 2 bedrooms can forget it. It's a safe area, but the maintenance of the complex leaves a lot to be desired considering the price and the distance from the city. A tenant paying $3.5K for a 2 bedroom one day couldn't even get hot water and the management claimed there was nothing wrong. The well-promoted tennis courts are very poorly maintained (unevenly resurfaced a few years ago on the cheap) and so are the children's play areas. The pool is large and nice, but the staff is rude, the rules are very strict and the rates are high.

There are no stores nearby of any quality, the restaurants cater to a crowd of retired folk (i.e., quality sucks at near-Manhattan prices), but you get plenty of parking spaces and several modes of public transit almost at your doorstep. Speaking about parking, the rates for the building garage are the highest outside of Manhattan. Other buildings in the area don't even come close. Garbarge disposal is right in the front of the 600 building so that the front side tenants get to enjoy the smell of rotting food in the summer - and the maintenance guy doesn't even clean the sidewalk. To top it all off, the management runs a corrupt scheme with used air conditioning units, be forewarned. If you don't use most of the facilities, can ignore most of the inconveniences and if you can get a good deal, the building is worth it (which is why I'm still here) because it's quiet and safe (24-hr doorman and security guards patrolling the complex).
