Review for Atlantic Plaza Towers Apartments

Lived there some years back. There were Marijuana smokers and heroin addicts in the stairwell everday. On the surface things have changed for the better, but not without significant costs. It seems that the buildings have a history of negligence and only until recently that there have been noticeable improvements with the 'New' staff. The previous owner used old slum-lord tactics by purposefully not paying bills and providing maintenance and improvements resulting in a tragic elevator accident with a Maintenance worker and numerous other environmental issues. Allegedly, the rent roll was going to off-shore coffers than the buildings themselves. With all this, unfortunately, the owner was not tried for criminal negligence. These repairs arrive after tragedies and inconveniences but from several years ago to present there were several rent increases that ranged from 13% to 20%! It almost felt as if lower-income tenants were being punished for the crimes of the previous ownership and subtlety, were being pushed out to make room for mid to higher income tenants. Before long older tenants will be gone partly due to the added stress of paying for their un-stabilized rent with diminished S.S. checks. Maybe the old greedy owners are still in play but there is a new management team to appease the uninitiated. It's just a shell-game! Overall, the building is seriously lacking in areas of tenant leadership and a sense of a strong 'community'. At this rate the rent will reach Manhattan prices with Manhattanites and out-of towners moving in but with a 60% unemployment rate. However, at the moment it barely appears to be a competitive deal in the local markets if you do not mind useless security, ridiculous rent increases, and being stared down frequently by idle young people.
