Sure it all looks nice from the road and around the office where you sign your lease, but once youve moved in, youll learn that Twin Lakes is a decaying collection of buildings managed by a rude and incompetent staff. One of their tricks is you dont get to see the actual unit youre getting until they already have your deposit in the bank and a lease under your nose. I should have known I was in for trouble when they called me the day before my move to tell me my apartment wouldnt be ready for my scheduled move in day, even though I had put the deposit down five weeks earlier. When I did get to move in, I found spider feces all around the edges of the kitchen and bathroom floors. There were mosquitoes, which were flying all around the apartment, breeding in the drain traps. The washer and dryer promised to come with the apartment were not installed. (Real nice when your stuff has been in storage for three years.) Twin Lakes is touted as Luxury Apartments, so tell me, what part of absolutely bottom of the line appliances and a AC/Heat unit so noisy you cant possibly shout a conversation over it, say Luxury? The furnace roars so loud I have to run an electric heater at night because I cant sleep with the horrific cycling noise. The plumbing in my unit is so bad, it takes two flushes to clear the toilet bowl. I have to run a foaming drain cleaner down my sinks once a month or they stop running completely. When you call maintenance to fix something, they might come over, but more than half the time they make some excuse for not fixing it, and never return. When you report a problem, they often wont believe it could possibly be true. ie: When we reported our bathroom fan sticks and hums for four minutes before it starts to spin, the maintenance man came over, turned it on, and of course it worked because we had used it just minutes before. He declared it working, dismissed the whole situation as not needing attention., and walked away. Its still not fixed. The grounds around the residence buildings are often a major mess. The staff relies on residents getting completely fed-up, and doing much the work themselves. There are parts of the grounds where you literally cant take two steps, without stepping over a pile of feces. We have an honest-to-god sink hole breaking through the pavement in front of our building, and all they do is put a barricade in the road until they can find the time to dump more stones into it. I just hope mine isnt the vehicle that falls in when it finally gives. To bring things full circle, Ill come back to the office and bring the staff to light. When I moved in, a new staff member neglected to give me a copy of the lease agreement, and the schedule for dog deposit payments. We moved in during middle of the month and some payments or charges were prorated or shifted one way or the other in time. Residents are **supposed** to receive a statement each month indicating charges due. When I thought we were all done with the deposit payments I cut a check for the full rent and my girlfriend took it over to the office. She asked them point blank if we were all paid up on the deposits. She was given the excuse that they couldnt access our records. The Office doesnt have access to our records? We heard nothing more for three months, and then out of the blue got a bill including $75 in late fees and fine print which in effect makes it an eviction notice if you dont pay the demanded fees. I tried to explain the situation to the apartment manager, but it was like talking to a guard rail. She snapped back that I had signed a document saying I had seen the payment schedule, and they are not responsible for helping residents who have payment issues. I ended up paying an unjust $75 because the staff cant admit to their mistakes. I highly recommend you avoid Twin Lakes until the staff gets their act together.
