If you like Roaches, move here

I lived here for two years, from Fall 2002 - Fall 2004. It actually wasn't so bad at first. The location isn't great because of all the traffic and the industrial surroundings, but the rent was pretty cheap compared to other places and the apartments were in decent shape. Plus, they allowed us to have two dogs which was a plus. As a female, I also felt pretty safe walking around the Ridgeview neighborhood, even at night.

Then the management changed and everything went to ****. A resident beneath us apparently they had a ... pest problem. They sprayed downstairs and guess where all the roaches went? That's right, they moved into our apartment. It was so disgusting I still get chills thinking about it. Every cupboard, every drawer, every corner of the room swarmed with roaches within a week. You think roaches only come out in the dark? Not here - they were so bold they sometimes crawled onto US while we were on the couch. I kid you not. I even saw a roach in the process of laying an egg!!!! That is something I never thought I'd see. And it isn't pretty.

We complained multiple times to the management and they did nothing to resolve the problem. Finally they sent one "exterminator" who stayed for a total of three minutes, casually spraying the kitchen before leaving. It did nothing to solve the problem. I tried calling Orkin. I was desperate to resolve the problem. Orkin said they could not spray in our apartment without the management's approval. And the management would not give us approval. I was even willing to pay the 200 bucks to have the exterminator come.

It got so bad we looked for another place to live. We found a duplex in another part of the state. We asked the Ridgeview management if we could PLEASE get out of our lease early. They said no.

They acted baffled as if they couldn't comprehend while we were in such a hurry to leave. Hello? We had been complaining all month about the roaches. They just clucked their tongues and shook their heads. Oh, they know, don't worry. They blamed it all on one particular resident and admitted that the whole unit was infected. But they were working on the problem, so we didn't have to leave! Yeah right. I was half tempted to catch a few roaches and release them in the office and see how they enjoyed living with them.

They seemed desperate for us to stay and even offered to lower rent for the next year. Not worth it.

We moved out asap and paid double rent for three months since we couldn't get out of our lease. It was an enormous waste of money to pay for an un-liveable roach infested hellhole for three months, but that's how much we needed to get out there.

Don't make the same mistake we did. The people who work there are TERRIBLE.
