Not Good But Not Horrible

We first moved into a 2 bedroom townhouse. Problems we encountered there were: the backdoor frame was rotted so wouldn't lock and couldn't really use it until we took out the lock and doorknob to change it, which is when we realized it was rotted and could not be replaced. The chain lock was painted over and dried so after hacking at it to make it functional that was the only way we had to lock the back door. Some of the linolium was bubbled in downstairs bathroom and kitchen. The upstairs bathroom light cover was missing-had to get a new one. A couple of the closet/bedroom doors were uneven and wouldn't close properly. Our front foor was warped and not aligned properly as well. The air conditioner could only be placed downstairs in the living room or up stairs in the bedroom. So needless to say, upstairs year round was hot (we ended up buying a window AC for our room) and downstairs was freezing. Oven started smoking when on broil and they looked at it and said it was fine. No locks on bedroom doors. Upstairs above our window (the roof overhang) was hanging down so that the birds were making nests in there and creating horrible noise at all hours. Also, there were bees making nests outside the window as well. Management had to be reminded to fix those issues on multiple occasions.

Then we moved to the one bedroom ranch style. Upon moving in, our electricity was supposed to be transferred and apparently was not. So we had no electricity the first night until the following afternoon. We were told the apartments were all newly carpeted but found red/pink stains in a few areas. It was during the winter months so we had the heat on, we noticed no matter how hot we turned it up it wasn't staying very warm. We check the windows and noticed the front left window had been "replaced" with a plastic sheet that was only resting in the window frame. The top was wide open to the outside! After contacting managment about this time and time again they finally came out and all the did was put new trim on the inside and screwed the plastic and new trim into old trim to seal it, in which caused the plastic to crack in the upper left corner. We also noticed molding on the bathroom ceiling after being there a couple weeks. There was some kind of weird water pressure issue that made a weird thumping noise and spat out brown water and then no water. That happened twice. The trim around the floor of the kitchen started peeling away which invited ants to invade our kitchen pantry. Oh and during the winter months, our apartment was set WAY back from the road and we were sent out letters saying plowing would be done by 6:00AM. YEAH FREAKIN RIGHT ! Plowing was never done, we were lucky if our path was done by 12:00PM. I always had to trudge through the snow to get to my car. I'm talking above my knee.

With all that said, those aren't super horrible unbearable living situations to where I would say "Don't live there" or anything like that. We actually loved the managment people we talked to. They were very nice to us and tried to fix everything we presented to them. Our one bedroom was in a very quiet area set back from the road and we had super quiet neighbors in both locations. Since the heat was water based our electric bill was VERY low, about $35 bucks tops. There are laundry facilities at the end of every building which is convenient, they also lock and you are given a key-which is comforting. Parking really wasn't all that bad. Across the street at furthest. Oh and the newly remodled apartments look VERY nice.

Would we live there again if we were in the area? Yes. Like I said, it's not horrible living situations. I probably would have been more thorough with the original walk through to point out all things noticed.
