Apartment Review for Fred Blum Properties

There are four anonymous five-star reviews posted over a three-day period. All but one of the other reviews are one- and two-star. Gee, I wonder what's going on here?..

This was my worst renting experience ever. Had to threaten the landlord with legal action multiple times to get him to do things he was required to do by his own lease and/or to stop doing things that were clearly illegal and disruptive. His goal seems to be to spend as little money as possible while charging as many fees as possible. This does not prevent him from presenting himself as a wonderful, thoughtful person (mostly just to himself of course, other people catch on fairly quickly).

He primarily rents to students, so their inexperience in renting laws and regulations lets him get away with all kinds of crap: bogus or inflated fees, inaccurate and inconsistent law statements, cheap and insufficient maintenance, etc. Don't know if this rental tactic is intentional - don't know if anything he does is intentional, really; everything he does is so haphazard and disorganized - but I imagine this is pretty much the only reason his business has survived so far. Use your university's free legal advice services! I'm sure they've already heard of him by now.

Speaking of disorganized and inconsistent, every time you talk to him on a subject, he gives you a different answer, usually one that conflicts with previous and future answers. Even when you're using media that generated a nice paper trail showing his inconsistencies (writing, email, etc.). So if you do have to deal with this guy, I recommend using such media to communicate with him.
