My boyfriend and I moved in to Providence Square, now known as Berkshires on Providence, the 1st of August. Upon arriving, we noted a list of problems with the apartment, from major to minor. We have a pet and the windows lacked screens. 2 windows had screens, but they need only be poked to fall out of the window. The electrical outlets will not hold a plug, allowing plugs to slid and hang half out of the outlet.

Recently we had a plumbing leak. Maintenance entered to fix the leak while were at work. This turned into a nightmare. The maintenance persons opened and entered every room in our apartment. Our bedroom, which had no work order or any relation to the plumbing problem was entered and searched. Money was stolen. Maintenance searched through our drawers and cabinets, stealing any money found. They left blue ink stains all over our tub, down the railings and banister going downstairs, on the kitchen counters, and on my sofa. They also went through my fridge--there was blue ink on the handle where they grabbed and on my fridge drawers.

Management refused to acknowledge this incident. We have filed a criminal police report. Not only did management lie to our faces about later activity to our apartment, but they also attempted to enter without notifying us 24 hours in advance (we only knew because after this disturbing event we changed our locks).

Also, this apartment complex claims to have tennis courts and a gym. Here is the major catch: The tennis courts are not open to residents. Apparently an on-site privately owned tennis club paid for the resurfacing and effectively took over the courts. Residents, who pay for this amenity each month, must schedule an appointment through the private club to use the courts.

The gym is another amenity paid for by tenants. However, it is only open the hours of the office, which are generally 9-5 or 9-7. Anyone working a regular daily schedule is unable to use this amenity. Management claims to be installing security camera to open up the gym 24/7, but they claimed the same thing about the tennis courts and have now changed their story.

The property is attractive, and the apartments are nicely priced. The illegal and violating activities of maintenance aren't worth the risk of moving in, and neither are the baits of amenities that in all honesty, exist but are not available to residents.

Use caution when entertaining the idea of renting here.
