very average; could find better ( over a year ago )

Over the past year and a half, I've grown increasingly dissatisfied with the complex. Living on the first floor, we've gone through various minor infestations including little worms, Mexican bean beetles (ladybug-looking bugs), and most recently, mice. After asking for help and not getting results, I purchased and installed a doorsweep on my own, to keep critters out. The mice problem began a couple of months ago when I started seeing them scurrying all around the property in the middle of the day.
The main pool that is suppose to be open all year has been closed for months, and it's now the middle of June. The other pool is so crowded with noisy children that it's of no use to anyone wanting to relax.
As mentioned, the gate is broken at least 50% of the time, but I've never noticed any problem with crime or suspicious characters or anything.
They took away all of the recycling bins and said they would return the paper/cardboard bin, but that was months and months ago, and they never did. Now we have to drive our recycling across town.
The walls are paper thin and noise is a definite problem for us, living on the first floor. We hear our upstairs neighbors footsteps, and it sounds like they wear lead shoes.
The staff have been relatively average, sometimes getting things done, and sometimes forgetting until several calls later. The actual maintenance guy that I've had experience with is great though, and always tries to help.
The main thing keeping us here is the hassle of moving. Plus, the garden tub and linen closets are awesome.

I'm in the process of searching for an apartment in another state (moving for work)... and boy, will I hate to leave North Pointe! People here don't know how good they have it.
I wanted a nice, quiet place while I was in grad school. I've lived here for two years and love it. Yes, pricey... my rent went up $30 this past year, though it felt like more b/c I had gotten a month free my first year.
Positives: I love the apartment; I have a 2/2 and it's great! You can also get a fireplace if you're on the second floor. I also like that the second floor stairs are inside the apartment (door on first floor, steps inside). Very safe-feeling community. I walk around the community all the time. They have a pretty nice exercise room and two nice pools. Also a laundry facility, but I've never used it (have W/D hookups in units). Close to Kroger, Costco. VERY nice maintenance staff (same three guys since I've moved in; very helpful, cheerful; always smile and wave). Carwash area is nice. Very close to Duke. LOADS of parking.
Negatives: As has been mentioned, the gates... probably have been broken more than not. It seems to be taking longer to fix lately, as well. Also as mentioned, the office staff is a little snooty at times (though not all of them). I've heard that the first floor apts are a little less soundproof (they can hear 2nd floor residents coming up and down the stairs). I can hear my downstairs neighbors' TV, etc when I'm in my stairwell. They took away the recycling bins recently; at the same time, switched water companies with a $6 increase in fees for water/sewer. I hate the grass in the winter; it's the cheap kind that doesn't grow as fast and looks brown from winter until about May/June.
OVERALL, I highly recommend North Pointe. I'm sad to have to leave...

The other reviews nail it pretty well. The gate is always broken from someone hitting it. It broke 2 months into living here, and just last month someone took out the entire column. It is safe. I leave stuff out on my patio (like tools and little things), but they're always there when I return. Kinda pricey, but I guess thats what you pay for safety.

This is a very nice community. I have never had any problems with the staff, and the maintenance crew has always fixed things that I requested, within 1-3 days. It is not cheap for the area, but you get what you pay for. It is safe, since I've left windows open in my car and nothing has ever been stolen. The one problem is that the walls and ceilings/floors are not that thick, so it sucks if you have loud neighbors, but most apartments have this problem.
Also, they have swinging metal gates as well as wooden swing-arms at each entrance, and as someone mentioned, the swing arms are usually broken. So if you just follow someone in, the gates may start closing on you (no vehicle sensor).

I enjoy living here and love Michelle in the office. The community is beautiful. They even have alarm systems in every apartment!
