Apartment Review for Tar River Estates #0647

Like every apartment complex there are pro's and con's to Tar River. Unfortunately for me, the con's greatly outweighed the pro's. Tar River claims the provide free wireless internet, they technically do, but it sucks. As college students with online assignments, reliable internet was a must so we ended up having to get our own private internet and pay for it out of pocket. We have also had maintenance issues like crazy. Nothing major, but enough to grate on your nerves. This is our second year here and our dishwasher has never worked properly. They have been out to "fix" it probably a dozen times but it's still just as broken as when we moved in. I don't think we've made it a week without having to call maintenance. Another thing to keep in mind is the insolation of the unit. Since Tar River doesn't include electricity, heating and cooling the unit can get very pricey. They are old buildings and are very poorly insulated so the electricity bills get pretty high in the really hot or really cold months, which in a way offsets the low rent. Lastly we have bug issues. They do come and spray, which works for the roaches, but there are still silverfish and other small bugs all over the place, and we are diligent about not leaving food out.
They are very friendly in the office, but friendly doesn't mean competent. The landscaping is pretty well maintained and the clubhouse and pool area are very nice. Also it is extremely quiet for the most part, which is hard to find around ECU. The location is unbeatable and the prices are very fair. I just wish the buildings were better maintained and I would probably be staying here again.
