Upon viewing this apartment I fell in love. It has beautiful hard wood floors, a charming feel, and a huge bedroom. Then I moved in.

There is no exhaust fan in bathroom which means there is mold everywhere that I had not noticed. Upon first using the shower it was still plugged up from the previous owner and there was mold between all of the tiles. I bought fans to put in the bathroom window to hopefully help, but this did not work and now the ceiling is falling down in the shower along with mold EVERYWHERE. I clean at least once a week, but I cannot do anything about the grout or ceiling and I m tired of doing the floor and tiles. It s a never ending battle. If you have mold allergies beware. My boyfriend cannot even come over here without getting sick.

The wood floors which seemed so charming are now nothing more than a nuisance. I have no idea how many splinters I ve had over the past year. The planks are uneven allowing dust and dirt to build up between them and no matter what I do I cannot fix this. The baseboard heating has the same problem. I ve vacuumed the little holes, but the hair and dirt from past residents are forever stuck.

While if you go view the apartment you can see how tiny the kitchen is, but I never imagined that the landlords hadn t moved the former resident s junk from the cupboards. I had to scrub it down completely when I moved in. Also the fridge is fidgety, but because the landlords have been so hard to contact I haven t even attempted to complain about this.

The windows are insanely drafty. I have pieces of glass that were cracked when I moved in, but I hadn t noticed. Oh do I regret that. My apartment is freezing constantly. Last winter I removed the window air conditioning unit (since the neighbor above me feeds the birds which makes my apartment echo with little clicks constantly not to mention the bird poop that is now on the AC unit.) Removing the unit was a huge mistake though because the window would not close all of the way, I had to stuff towels into 2 inch space that was left open to the world. If you want screens make sure the landlords put them in before you move in. While they said they have screens and I said I would like them up, they never made it out here to do so. In fact I never even got a call from them regarding my request till two months or so after I asked.

The noise is ridiculous. When I looked at the apartment I told the woman that I needed a quiet space and she said it was always quiet. I m sure before I viewed the apartment she had gone to the neighbors and told them to be quiet as I heard nothing from my upstairs neighbor, now I can only be here when he s at work. I know he s not a giant but he stomps around like one. He also has a sound system that he is very proud of and uses it whenever he is home. I ve asked him to turn it down (which he does for a day) and the landlords, who never even call me back to say that they ve spoken with him. The girl below me is the same and incredibly mean to boot. For at least a week I could not sleep here because of the noise.

Besides the inconsiderate neighbors the windows allow all the noise from the outside in. If you re having a conversation outside our building, you better believe I can hear every single word. (Which has been entertaining at times, but still I could have just put on "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" or "Knocked Up" and gotten the same kicks.)
The street, Portage Path, is just busy in general and therefore there is traffic noise constantly, but I figured that I would hear that even before I moved in.

Parking is a huge problem. There are at least fourteen apartments and only ten parking spaces next to the building. Thankfully there is guest parking behind a house the landlords own, but that can fill up too. It doesn t help that during the summer one of the tenants has both a regular vehicle and a motorcycle that he occasionally parks in a space as well. Then there is a huge Cadillac that parks wherever and can make it impossible to use another space. This became a problem about three weeks ago as the car blocked in the garbage dumpster. We ve had trash building up for at least three weeks. Now, because some people just use shopping bags to hold their trash, it is scattered throughout the back lot. The car has finally moved but the garbage people only take what is in the dumpster, so we still have trash piled up. I hope someone called the Health Department as this can bring in rats and bugs. I m just tired of trying.

If you want an apartment that looks nice to guests then this place will suit you just fine. If you want a comfortable apartment to live with few problems, then you probably would not like this building. If the neighbors were considerate half of these problems never would have existed and I probably would have enjoyed the apartment to a degree. Perhaps some people live here without any problems, but the unit I was in has plenty of issues.
