I lived in an Uptown property for about two years. Amazingly, the first year was not too terribly bad. However, the second year was an absolute nightmare.
I lived in a basement apartment. The second year I was in there, the second bedroom and hallway kept flooding. Apparently this was due to something wrong with the air conditioning. The Uptown maintenence staff was so incompetent that they would do quick patch-up jobs but never REALLY fix the problem. I dealt with the flooding over and over.
Once I finally put up a real fight about it, they eventually called in an actual air conditioning guy to fix the problem. He then discovered BLACK MOLD growing in the walls of my apartment. (Which had been making me, my dog, and my boyfriend sick for MONTHS). And as I moved furniture and things out of my closets so that he could work, there were big patches of it growing under my things. Over $500 worth of things were ruined. When I complained about all of this, they refused to compensate me (this should have been covered under their liability insurance) and tried to move me to a dump down the street where rent was $300 MORE a month. They were nasty, hateful, and refused to do much of anything for me. Fortunately my lease was up and I was able to get out of there as fast as possible! I would NEVER rent from them again!
