Nice apartments and friendly management ( 05/01/2013 )

I find McNaughton Woods to be a very nice place to live. Yes, the apartments a little out dated and could use some upgrades but other than that I love my place. Maintenance has always been quick to respond, usually within a couple of days. The office staff has always been friendly to me and my husband. I must say this place is nicer than any other place I have lived at.

I very skeptical on moving here at first because of the reviews I read on here. Like most people, I do research on everything before making a big decision. The manager was very helpful from the beginning and made me feel right at home. Upon moving in there were a few minor things that were overlooked in my apartment and when I called DJ & he sent Jeff (I think that's his name) right over to address them.
The work out room is very outdated and needs to be completely remodeled and new equipment needs to go in there or they should just do away with it all together.
The grounds to the property are absolutely beautiful! I would definitely recommend taking a look at this property.

I moved into McNaughten Woods a week ago. After looking at the space in the model, I was sold. On my move in day, Eric of the maintenance staff gave me a warm welcome--assuring me that if I saw problems/issues, a maintenance report should be submitted. During my walk thru, I noticed a few issues. Some have already been addressed--as promised.
There are a lot of children playing around my area. There are no outside areas designated for the children to play. Parents must talk to and monitor their children's behaviors. It is very critical that parents talk to their children about safety and respect for other residents' property. Throwing balls/rocks, etc. can damage cars and apartment windows. Leaving trash in front of others property is not acceptable! Parents, please teach and talk to your children about these issues. This is not the property management's responsibility--it is yours!!
Overall, this is a very quiet place and the office staff is very friendly and cooperative. I hope that my stay will be comfortable and trouble/worry free. So far, I am impressed. Believe me, if I have to retract my statements at a later date, I will not hesitate to do so...

I moved into McNaughton Woods about 3 months ago. When I was looking for a new place I had such a hard time because I have so much furniture and couldn't find a place that had large bedrooms and storage inside the apartment. I ended up driving by McNaughton Woods and fell in love with it! I have been extremely happy here. The leasing agent really helped me in my time of need. I needed to move rather quickly and he was able to make it happen for me and for that I'm thankful. The complex is beautiful!

I moved into McNaughton Woods several months ago. When I first came to see the property I was shocked by the size of the apartments, they are huge! The only downside is that the kitchens are a little outdated, but it wasn't anything I was not able to work with. I have been treated very well by the office staff. I typically deal with DJ, but Cassie has always been very helpful too. I have only had to put in one maintenance order and the guy that came out to my house was very friendly. With the warmer weather here now, I have noticed there are quite a few kids, but I guess that is to be expected. I wish I could pay my rent to the rental office rather than mailing it to corporate. I am very pleased with my place! I think if they updated some of the stuff, it would be much better!

I have lived here for three years and had planned to move out when my lease was up;however, I have seen a big improvement in management and maintenance the last six months. I now also have decent neighbors. I'm not sure if I will sign another least but they deserve a thumbs up for making changes.

A friend of mine was looking to move into Mc Naughten Woods and was doing some research on the internet and came across these reviews, she called me very concerned so I looked them up for myself.
I have been a resident here for a very long time (more than 5 years), I absolutely love my apartment. Yeah, the area is not what it used to be but I have not had any problems at all. I live in a very quiet part of the complex and have very nice neighbors. If you ask me, the entire east side has gone downhill a little bit. But, that is coming from someone that lived in Gahanna most of my life.
The maintenance here is not bad! Eric is very nice and goes the extra mile to help the residents. Management is not bad! Like I said, I have lived here for several years- management is better now than it ever has been! If you pay your rent on time and don't cause any issues, you shouldn't have a problem with the office staff. DJ has always been very friendly to me! I have several friends that live here and none of them have a problem with him. Maybe he is just straight to the point, i dont know but i know he is anything but rude. Maybe the people posting these reviews are upset because of other issues. Maintenance has gotten behind a little here and there, but my issues are always handled...its called patience people!! Learn what they are!! Mold issues? Come on, it seems like you people are feeding off eachother just to find a way to bash this complex, find a life.
Section 8? No, they don't take it. I have a girlfriend that wanted to move here but they would not take her section 8, so do some research before you write negative reviews about this place.
I would really reccomend this place to anyone. You get alot for your money! Things have really changed here in the last year, for the better. We used to never get newsletters or parties for us residents, we do now. You cant make everyone happy. Most of the time people will not take time to write a POSITIVE review but they sure are quick to write a NEGATIVE review...thats sad! Go in the office and introduce yourself to the people, i'm sure you will find them to be nice. It is always the unhappy renters that will throw a fit, people have jobs to do, thats what the people in the office are doing here. geez!

I lived at Mcnaughten Woods for three years (Dec 05 to Dec 08) and yes it was nice to move in there. I thought I was safe and secure. I thought I would not have to move again at least until my daughter graduated college in "2011".
After a year, I wanted to move out sooner but physically and financially was not able too.
I moved after my first apartment "04" after 14 years had black mold in the basement, bathroom, and bedrooms ceiling. I was promise from my next apartment that I would not have water or mold damage and it did too. So, after year and half I had to move again, after the tempted break in incident and my neighbor gun firing in wall, and my neighbors in my front tree looking in my apartment.
I move to Mcnaughten woods, and yes again I was told not only would I be safe, I was told the basement did not leak in there apartments. Yes, it was basement water leakage, black mold in basement and bathroom, and evidence that the wall had been replace more than once told me by the painters not of plaza properties. The basement wall and carpet were mold and mildew from all the rainwater coming in from the window and ground. I had concerns about the living room ceiling plaster from water damage being of mold too.
The plaza properties finally took my complaints seriously after 2 years of complaining phone calls. I received one month free in April 08, for all the hassle of the middle of the night soaked floors, worrying and becoming ill from the black mold, and damp apartment. I invested in a dehumidifier "06", more money and electric bill rise. Finally, from the main office/plaza properties one nice young lady finally help get the ground and window wall replaced twice, the bathroom bleached, and look at the carpet. Then, after that it fell apart with the basement carpet, oh yeah another thing on the carpet. When I initially received the apartment my rent was $750/Month. I was told the carpet was lousy and if I wanted new carpet the rent would go up $50 added each month for basement carpet, and living room carpet. So I ended up paying $850 a month for carpet. Eventhough when I moved in the basement carpet, just a foot from the wall and large square was a darker tan then the lighter tan carpet, when I question I was told they ran out of new carpet, which seem odd to me, you ran out in the middle of the carpet and you could not match the color, that you charge me 50 dollar a month for.
Anyway finally, the basement carpet could not be replaced because I lived alone, and could not move the furniture alone, and Mcnaughten or plaza properties could not move it for me.
Therefore, the carpet people could not replace the much-needed molded carpet to be replaced.
I had a full bedroom down there, heavy dressers, chester drawer, armoire, bookcases and other furniture items. When I moved in I paid movers, when I move out I pay movers not only I saved for it, it is also due to my illness of moving and carrying heavy items. I also do not have money to pay movers on something they are responsible for.
Another, mistakes I made was not seeing the apartment before signing the lease. The furnace in the summer and winter continue going out. I have an illness and I need my heat in the winter or I cannot move from the cold house and I need my air condition in the summer or I swell up and hurt all over. I also had doctor statements verifying my illness.
Then the other things I was told the rent is due on the first and late after the 5th of the month. When I decided to move, the other thing is you have to give 60 days, yes, 2 months notices on the first of the month or you start all over to move out, and then I learned from the other apartment agency it was told I paid my rent late.
My lease for rent is due on the first, and late after the fifth of the month. First, of all I paid with Federal post office money orders every month, between the 1st and 5th of the month, and was never given any notice of being late month after month for three years, and my least was renewal twice and on the third lease I was given a flyer to renew lease "we'll go nuts if we loose you” that changed really fast when I gave my notice.
I then question why I was reported being late, I was in turn treated rudely and was told rent is due on the first, and later after the 1st. And there were no other explanation given to me why they badmouth my rental history. I have never heard of any rent place without a grace period and whenever I was late after the 5th, my late fee was accepted, and that should count for something. NO, other apartment after visiting and calling over 30 of them heard of a 60-day move out notice.
I do not know of any other apartment that is going to hold your apartment for another 30 days, and who has money to hold apartments for another 30 days or loosing out on a good one. If I chose to go month to month the rent went up $40 more a month. And you still have to give 2 months notice to move out on the first of the month.
I am waiting to see what happens when I move out, because I also paid $1300 dollars and no one can tell me where that money went too. I paid 50 dollars to hold an apartment, 350 for a deposit, 425 for half of the rent total $825. Eventhough, I was told the month I moved in my rent was free, due to a special, just like the new place I am moving too. And the rest well I have not been told yet. So, I hope I get my money returned, and then the share garages, I do not know whom bright idea that was when you have children or family getting in and out the car.
The noise level, well the bathrooms, both stairway, and laundry room is where you can hear your neighbors very clear.
If your neighbor flushes their toilet, you think somebody in your house did, and your neighbors walking across the floor, you would think they are upstairs walking. So
I parked nearly on the garage wall, after letting my family out in the rain, cold, snow; heat because I did not have enough room to let them out in the garage. My car has been ding from my neighbor’s kids getting in/out the car, and children walking or riding their bikes, scooters, or hand prints on window from touching walking by, and no privacy in your car.
Another thing, you could not bar-b-que at least the tenants received a letter in 2006 if they see any form of grill/outdoor cooking items you will be evicted.
Finally, I wanted to transfer to another plaza properties because then I could transfer with a 30 day notice and that was a mistake, I felt though I was treated like a criminal. They needed to do a credit check, complete 4 page rental application, pay stubs, bank statement, inspect my current apartment, 50 dollar application fee, another rental deposit, bring in social security card and show proof of all utilities in your name transfer to new apartment before you sign the lease.
What happen to transfer?
Also, a Mcnaughten rental person bad mouth another plaza properties rental and that also made me think about moving to another plaza properties. If they do this to each other, what do they do to the tenants?
I also was not told we had to pay Reynoldsburg school taxes eventhough you live in Columbus with Columbus mail, and Columbus fire/police.
The safety of the gate is a joke, people just pulled over and wait on you to come in, or pull up behind you and follow you in.
Maintenance people are great, even after repeated calls on the same thing, they always came with a smile and good attitude, and they replace the whole kitchen floor, even though they damaged it moving the refrigerator, that had to be replaced and while moving the old tile it had 5 layers of old tile on top of it, the maintenance man removed it all and did a wonderful job too.
The repeated maintenance calls in the middle of the night to fix the air and the heat that continually went out.
The rent is overrated but I guess I understand it, to keep a lot of the riff raff out which they continue to attract by tearing up the pool and fitness center. The fitness center was also not what it seems; it is taking behind a mirror, which makes the fitness center looks huge and nice. The equipment was so old, damage, and the stuff was never cleaned. The teens used the fitness center as a hang out center, and that is why I stop going over there.
I was not ready to move, and was devastated, and therefore under duress to make the choice to move to the first available to me, which had a free 30 day move in to help me transition to a place which I also feel is forming a negative opinion of me because of what they heard from Mcnaughten woods.
However, destroying people’s rental history and character is not how you get and keep good tenants.
