Nice apartment, but had problems with A/C and Silverfish! ( over a year ago )

When I found this apartment complex, I loved it. It's in a very safe place, and it's gated. Mind you the gates aren't manned and sometimes they stay up, overall it's very safe.
However, we've had issues with parking. When we moved in I asked if we could have friends park on the street and the woman said she wouldn't recommend it, but didn't say it was prohibited. However, when we left our spare cars parked on the road it got towed to a "secret" spot in the community and they charged us $50! The manager then said that "parking on any street is illegal" and we should know that. Only a few months later did they put up "no parking" signs.
We've also have had trouble with Silverfish bugs ever since we moved in. Initially they said that there wasn't much they could do since when it gets warm they get into "any house," but I'd never had a problem in any other home I've ever lived. In the summer months we saw at least 4 or 5 a day on the walls and ceilings! They sprayed our attack for them a few times but since it was not effective and the exterminator they used left rude notes in the apartment, I just gave up. They're just really gross looking, fast moving bugs. They don't bite and don't get in the food so I decided just to live with seeing them every once in a while rather than dealing with fumigation (since we have a dog). There were fewer in the winter months but it's spring time now and I keep finding little ones.
We've also had INSANE issues with our A/C. It would be on for HOURS during the day when we weren't home just blowing out hot air. So about 5 or 6 times I would turn it off, call maintenance, wait, and turn it back on. Whenever maintenance arrived (usually the next day), it'd then be working fine. They'd measure the air temperature and say it was fine rather than replacing their obviously very low quality air conditioning units. Now it's the first hot day of the year again and the A/C is barely working. We never had trouble with the heat, just the air.
We've also had some drain issues. Occasionally, like maybe 5 or 6 times throughout the whole year, we've been able to smell a really foul smell in the bedrooms and bathrooms. It smells sometimes like backed up sewage. I never figured out if it was our apartment or the one downstairs, but maybe it had something to do with not using the drains in the spare bathroom.
Regardless of the problems we've had I actually really loved the layout and cleanliness of the apartment and complex. Our rent was also pretty reasonable for the area. The main reason I stopped having maintenance come over is because we have a dog and they require her to be locked up when they come in, which is a hassle for us to do and I often forget. So if you have more patience and don't mind harassing the management and maintenance people to get your problems fixed right off the bat, it's not a bad place to live.

I also had issues with the AC when I moved in. They wouldn't fix it because they said it wasn't hot enough outside even though we were sweating. They said we had to wait until Mon. Don't they check those before you move in? They also claim it's a "gated community" but the gates never work. They also claim that they're not required to plow the lot. Are you kidding me? The area is nice and the neighbors are friendly but it seems like they try to cut corners at your expense.

I really like this place and just moved in. But let me just say I can't stand my neighbors. Not sure if they are trying to irritate us on purpose or if the place is that cheaply built. but the noise is horrible!!! Which makes me question how strict the office is about who they let live here. I don't have any regrets living at this complex. but word of advice make sure you understand and know who you are gonna live beside, above or below, before signing your lease. Not a good mix!
