Nice apartment that needs work ( over a year ago )

Reviewed by: Anonymous
After moving into Forsythia Court in November of 2008, I was surprised by how much living space and parking there was available for the price ($559/mo.) But, as I am nearing the end of my lease, I have found many issues with the complex. I will go down each section in detail.
Safety
-
Safety was not much of a concern here; there were no crime issues in the complex I was aware of and my vehicles never had any break-in issues. Still, the grounds are not protected by any fence line from the neighborhoods surrounding the units, which could cause an issue.
Parking
-
This was an excellent part of living here. There was always available parking and I never had an issue with spots with my neighbors.
Appearance
-
This is something the complex was aware of but never fixed. The wood on the outside of the units was old and deteriorating, mold and all. But all they did to fix the issue (prior to me moving in) was paint over the damage. It is very apparent when you get near the units and look. Also, the gutters were constantly leaking when it rained due to them not being at the proper angle, but upon reporting this, they were never fixed.
Office Staff
-
The Office staff never really gave me any issues. The manager was the one usually in the office and she was a generally nice person, always willing to help with anything going on regarding your apartment.
Maintenance
-
This was one issue that I found a problem the minute that I moved into the apartment. I had multiple issues with my heating and cooling thermostat in my hallway working. I reported the issue and the thermostat was replaced, but upon the summer coming in, I found that the A/C would not work with the thermostat. I had to bypass it and use the thermostat in the unit, which was a pain to get to, due to it being near flood level. I had multiple visits by maintenance techs but none of them ever fixed it. I eventually gave up as my calls to the maintenance staff began not being returned.
Condition of Unit
-
My apartment had new carpet and new wall-paper upon moving in. There were a few issues with scuffs on doors and baseboards, but nothing major. The stove in the unit was a very old unit and the covers around the burners were not the right size. This was reported, but nothing was done about it. The oven thermostat also was incorrect, causing many a meal to be burned in the stove.
Noise Level
-
This was a major issue while I was living here. About 4 of the 7 nights of the week, there were people outside my bedroom window between the hours of 10pm and 4am that got drunk, every night they were outside, and were constantly loud and playing music with a radio. Police were called on multiple instances as well as the management office, but nothing ever really was resolved with it.
Overall, the complex is nice and is a safe place to stay, but you may run into issues with people being loud outside and maintenance being very slow at response and/or fixing the issue.
