I lived here for 2 years. I loved this place and only had one issue ever and it was with a neighbor not the property management company.. And the management team was on it when the issues started. The office team is great,Tina and Gigi are friendly, outgoing, and responsive which I appreciated as I have a crazy schedule.
nice clean insides, convenient location, great price, 2 gyms and a pool.. 2 thumbs up!

The location, maintenance of the apartments and grounds and attentive staff make these apartments the best deal in Southwest Portland. I love living here.

I have been here for about 5 months now and have few complaints. I was pleasantly surprised to get here from out of state and see that the apartment I moved into was just like the apartment I viewed. I was also given a tour of southwest Portland before I moved in (never had that before) and was welcomed with open arms when I finally arrived. I love the forest views and the quiet surroundings! There is so much space inside and out. The apartment is clean and I haven't had many issues with noise except for the dog upstairs who cries the whole time the owners are gone. As for amenities, the pool was rarely clean and most of the people who frequented the pool were not residents. I am happy that the complex is dog friendly (my dog loves it here) but not happy that so few people pick up after their dogs. If you have a dog, expect to step in poop a few times because it's everywhere. What really gets me is that bags are provided but people are just too lazy to use them. Management sent a newsletter threatening fines for not picking up, but the poop problem is as bad, if not worse, than it was before. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the inside of my apartment! It's quiet, clean and relaxing. I just have to leave my poop-covered shoes at the door.

We've been here for seven months and have made a few maintenance calls and they have all been responded to within a day--if we make the report in the morning, someone is almost always at our door before 5 pm. The people working in the office have always been very helpful and friendly. In my opinion, the problems with this apartment complex are caused by whoever owns the place and the manner in which the units were built. The walls are thinner than I have ever experienced in any apartment complex before (and I've lived in quite a few). Luckily we have great neighbors. Thin walls are not the fault of the people who currently work in the office. Quality was not chosen when this place was built. The other main problem is that all but one window in our place is an old, aluminum-framed window. This means the heat goes right out the windows, so we pay well over $200 in electricity bills every month in the winter. It's really shameful--the owners should replace these windows. While the heat inside escapes right out the windows, the moisture outside comes in and causes the worst mold problem I've seen in my 17 years of living in Oregon. Also, when the plumbing was done (again a choice that the management had nothing to do with), they went with the cheapest option--if someone turns on the water at a sink for 2 seconds, the water in the shower goes cold and stays cold for a few minutes. It's extremely annoying to take a shower in this place--I take baths whenever I can. This is not a bad place to live, but choices were made in the past when the complex was built (and the current choice not to replace windows) that add up to mediocre quality of living now.

Great place. Nice updated apartments. Good location. Maintenance has always been great, as well as most of the office staff. When I see the property manager, she has always been rude. I was at the pool this afternoon, and she is there with a half dozen friends. They all appear to have had too much to drink. I am just happy my daughter is with her mother this weekend, as their lewd language would not have flown with me. I had to leave when she kept looking at me and whispering to her friend. Its a shame she is so bad, as the rest of the employees are really great. You'll be fine here, as long as you don't have to deal with her.
Seriously Dude? Montclair is fantastic!

I must say I am quite surprised to read these negative reviews. Judging by the poor grammar and the repetitive comments I would assume that this illiterate person was probably evicted, or close to being evicted. Almost all the complaints that I am reading are definitely the problem of this poster not the apartment complex.
First, it’s quite common for complexes to have model photos in their craigslist ads, so it’s not necessarily a “bait and switch” scam. It’s really your problem if you never looked at the apartment before you signed your paperwork. ****, you could have looked at it the day that you signed your paperwork.
As far as the issues in the apartment go…they are old…and that’s why you would only pay $950 a month in rent. Remember, if you shop at K-mart you get K-mart clothes. Perhaps, you should have spent your time at the Hilton since your standards seem so high.
Drugs are a problem at every complex. How do they know you weren’t the ones selling or using drugs? You can’t just bust down every resident’s door that people “think” are using drugs.
I agree, that the water/garbage billing is a little ridiculous. I mean I don’t even pay that in the new house I moved into.
In running a business, the first thing you should learn is the laws about businesses, the most pertinent one here being that it is illegal to run a business out of an apartment complex. Not to mention, your phone issue…definitely your phone company’s problem not the apartment complexes.
As for inappropriateness behavior from management…Aren’t we all a little inappropriate at times?... I would bet that you probably were nice and chit chatty with the management and they were trying to build a bond with you and now that you are disgruntled you want to bad mouth them about something you engaged with at the time.
Nothing ****** me off more than stupid sites like this where complexes get bad reviews for no reason. People seem to think managers are baby sitters, accountants, life coach’s, therapists, psychologists, the mayor…I mean really…They work a 9-5 just like you do so give them a break…they cannot fix everything all the time.
I lived at Montclair for over 2 years and even through the management change have had very few bad experiences and definitely none that required these kinds of comments. The maintenance guys have always repaired things in a timely fashion and management has always responded to any issue I’ve had with nothing less than a smile on their face. Not too mention the location of the complex is amazing!
If people would only do their research before moving into an apartment complex I think they would avoid having such issues.

If I knew now what I would go through as a renter here, I would have gone with ANY of the other apartments I looked at!
The managment at this complex is terrible! First off, we were shown an "updated unit" during our tour and chose this place based on that. However when we moved in, we were given an older model!!! Also, I hope you are handy because they take forever to respond to service requests! We ended painting a room after being told it would take a month or two for them to do it. After all this we ended our lease early and paid one month's rent as a penalty and still they made up charges that resulted in us getting less than our full deposit back!

I have lived here for over a year now and must say that I am surprised by the reviews on here. It seems most of the complaints on here are for totally normal things that happen in apartment complexes. Yes you will probably hear your neighbors, yes parking normally sucks and there is always maintenance issues. Especially since I think these apartments are pretty old. That said I love my apartment I think that they did a great job with the remodel and the location is so sweet. Im close to school and shopping! I dont think that you can ever really judge a complex by these reviews since everyone is different. I happen to love it hear though and think it is a great apartment complex if you are used to living in apartments.

I recently moved to Montclair Terrace Apartments from New York. I have had bad rental experience in the past so I always make sure to do all of my home work first before being swayed by a beautiful model. I like to see the very apartment that I will be moving into. I picked Montclair Terrace for many reasons first the price is unbeatable with all the upgrades that you get. The staff was friendly, and the location is perfect. Being from New York I called many times before I was able to fly out and look for homes. I make sure to read apartment reviews and take my time before selecting where I will be living for the next three years. I moved to OR to go to school and as a full time student I have to have a home that is quiet, clean, updated, safe, and priced well. I don't party as I'm a medical student and at the moment my life is filled with my studies. The reviews left me a little skeptical. I was worried that I was getting into a fixer upper type of place with an unreliable staff. However this has not been my experience. I have been living here for three months now and I felt moved to give an honest review. I just wanted others to know that I moved into a beautiful home that is well priced, every time I stop in at the rental office the staff is always friendly they all know me by first name basis. I have enjoyed my experience here and I hope if you are reading this you to will consider living here at Montclair Terrace. Hope to see you here; the neighbors are very respectful and courteous.

I think the other reviews are being a bit unfair--it used to be pretty lousy but they have a new manager (Melissa McAfee) and since she has been there I really have seen a lot of things start to shape up around here. The managment team is the one thing in any apt complex that either makes or breaks the place. If the manager isn't interested in your (the tenant) comfort, satisfaction, happiness, etc. then the overall experience is going to be a negative one. I have lived here for quite a while and I have to say that I LOVE the new changes since the new manager has taken over. It has become a real home to me now and I would recommend living here to anyone!
