Toftrees - Squirrel Run Apartments

I have noticed that there are no posts about Squirrel Run Apartments here, so I am filling in that gap. These are the units for professionals. Most of the people that I have met work at Penn State University or are retired. I moved here recently from another building complex within Toftrees because the other apartment was too close to the expressway and traffic noise was nearly constant.

The Squirrel Run units are very nice units consisting of one and two bedroom units. I have a two bedroom lower floor unit. I will first share what I feel is one of the minuses of these units. However, be warned. Unlike the other buildings in the complex, these are stick-built structures, so if you are on the lower floor, you hear foot-falls from your neighbors above you. It is just like you are in a regular two level house in this regard. There is no soundproofing between the floors. The other building have concrete slab floors, so you generally do not hear much from upstairs. To be honest, if I had known that the Squirrel Run buildings were stick built and not concrete, I am not sure that I would have taken an apartment there. But I will endeavor to get use to it for now. Compared to the noise from the expressway from big rigs and other traffic, I will take the foot-falls. The fellow above me is a professor at the university and everything quiets down at night.

On the plus side, the kitchens are larger in the two bedroom units and the bathroom is huge. There is also a nice breakfast bar in most of these units. Though my unit does not have one, some units have fireplaces in them. One of the other main reasons I wanted one of these apartments is that they all have a washer/drier in them. I find this very convenient rather than stocking up on quarters to feed the coin laundry. Each unit has its own hot water heater as well. Bedrooms are a decent size and the larger bedroom in back is very bright since it has two windows. My unit faces toward the parking lot, so there is plenty of light. The patio is very large and extends almost the full length of the apartment. My unit even has an area between the patio and a retaining wall where some flowers could be planted.
