I have been a tenant here for the last 7 yrs and I was displaced by the fire for a few days. Once the fire started, Management and other good samaritan neighbours, knocked, banged and rang the doorbells of all the tenants in the fire building and surrounding townhomes.
Before it was over, Management had open up the Model home for Redcross to assist us for the evening. We had a choice of Redcross accommodations or two free nights at a hotel paid for by management. Needless to say, out of 14 townhomes directly affected by the fire, none of us took the Redcross accomodations.
After returning to our homes, all the carpets were cleaned, management kept visiting to find out how we were doing, and to offer us odor control stuff, ect...Since there were no vacant apartments available, we had the option of breaking our leases and our entire Security Deposit being returned to us, or waiting until another apartment was available. So far, we found out that only 2 tenants left, one of which was the tenant that had the fire. Everyone else has returned to their homes, including my family, or was given another apartment.
My family was very impressed with the way management took control of the situation, seeing as it was a very stressful day, and with about 20 of us in her face.
Of course, we are all suppose to have rental insurance, and I think it should become mandatory.
