Worst Mistake In 25 Years Renting.....

I was hasty in my search for an apartment, so I ended up here. What a huge disappointment (see why below):

1. Bait and switch: leasing agent promises everything; but the 20 page lease contract takes much of it away. Read a copy of the lease very carefully, then, find an apartment somewhere else. 2. Parking a nightmare: Having a guest without parking voucher visit? Will immediately get ticketed or towed. Forget finding a spot on the street after 4PM. Want to park in the basement lot? Get on the waiting list and have lots of money at hand. 3. Filthy hallways, and elevators, and basement level. Trash chute only big enough to accept a cereal box; any trash in kitchen size bag or bigger must be hauled personally and a great distance to dumpster at (South Building) (one of the four buildings-- for all trash). Don't like it? Pay a $25 fine. Lobbies all smell of mold (from AC (?) in the summer). Cockroaches galore. 4. Management says: "Customer service is our primary goal"; "call us and we will gladly address your concerns"; The reality is a "take it or leave it" attitude. Did you leave a message on the phone? Chances are 50:50 you will get a response. 5. You pay for all utilities. Think you are frugal and can limit expenses? Forget it: you are billed the same amount for electricity, ac, heat, and gas regardless of actual personal usage. What do you think happens to the size of your bill when no one else in the building is motivated to conserve? 6. It's NOT a "luxury apartment"; it's a dormitory. There are many students from local universities who like to party all weekend. Lots of empty beer bottles and empty cigarette boxes in the hallways on Mondays. 7. Underground tunnels leading to parking area poorly monitored: looks like a rape trap. I carry mace. 8. Want privacy? Lease has you wave it: landlord or maintenance can enter at their discretion. 9. Did you like the gym? Well, 3 out of 4 treadmills were broken for about 4 months at the end of 2005. Get in line to use the weights. Swimming pool is ugly and boring and requires an extra (large) monthly fee.

Anything nice about Park Towne?: beautiful views and nice local grocery store.
