Review Title:   I Cannot Even Begin To Know Where To Start....
Reviewer:   Anonymous
Review Date:   3/21/2007

....after having rented in various cities for several years, I can honestly say that I have not had the number of problems collectively from all those places, that I have had since JLB took over management of 5855 Darlington in Squirrel Hill.

The first week they took over management, heat was turned off!!! They blamed it on Dominion Peoples "screwing things up".

They replaced the dumpster with one 3/4 the size..which would be fine except for the fact that over the months of May-June 2006, there was no trash pickup for 6 weeks straight! Repeated calls and voicemails to JLB garnered nothing...no callbacks...and when you FINALLY could get an office manager on the phone, Bailey seemed to be completely clueless and the issue had to be re-explained every time.

They have had 5 office managers in the 9 months they have managed our property (Danielle, Gabrielle, Bailey, Kristin and Ericka). That tells you something about management if they can't hold an employee more than 2 months at a time.

The residents of 5855 Darlington had always had assigned parking spots. In April 2006, they sent us notices asking to indicate if we would be renewing leases (mine didn't expire until August)..which is fine b/c I understand they need to know whether to advertise the unit or not. What was really a distasteful, unethical business practice was once I signed a renewal notice...only THEN did they send a notice stating that upon review of our old leases, there was nothing formal in them abut parking spots....so if I wanted to keep it, I had to pay $40/month...something that would have been nice to know before comitting, maybe??

After signing a renewal for the following year, 3 months later, while out of town, I received a voicemail from Bailey stating that they were showing my apartment that afternoon??? Obviously, they didn't rent it...but it's just one of many examples of how totally disorganized they are.

I can only 100% wholeheartedly reiterate everyone's posting about total lack of customer service. They ONLY way you will ever get a phone call from JLB is if it concerns them getting $ from you.

In October of 2006, the whole house went 3+ weeks with no heat. It was 2+ weeks of calling before I ever actually got to speak to a human being about the problem...and that was b/c I was able to finally get a live person to answer...NOT because they called us back. This affected all residents and everyone seemed to have the same issue. It got to the point that we contemplated pooling our resources and hiring a lawyer. Once I finally did speak to JLB about the heating issue...what followed was another week plus of flases promises and bad infrmation before heat was restored.

My recommendations: 1) DO NOT rent from JLB. I love my location...but I've learned the hard way...it is so not worth it. 2) If you are in a lease with JLB....document EVERYTHING. All phone calls...take photos....get things in writing!! 3) Don't let them hit you with made up charges. Know your lease and don't let them makeup fake charges that are not in it.
