15-20 Year Old Appliances

I have been a tenant at Newcastle for 2 years now (2005-2007), and I have had to report A.C. unit problems on 13 different occasions. The A.C. unit constantly freezes up and does not blow out cool air, and it also has a major water leak problem that has damaged the wall and carpeting of the apartment. While the maintenance staff is quick to respond to the problem, they have never truly fixed the leak - the A.C. will work for a few weeks after they come, but then it will start leaking again and not blowing out cool air. I have also had 1 reported problem with the refridgerator in my apartment. The water heater in the apartment directly above me sprung a leak, which has allowed water to seep down the walls into my apartment causing damage to the walls. One night upon coming home, one of the tenants who lives in the complex across from me asked me to come over to her place and help her out - the main water pipe leading into her water water had burst, and there was a good inch or 2 of standing water in her kitchen because of the water spraying out from the pipe.

All of this can be chalked up to the age of the appliances and plumbing and age of the apartments. The fridge, water heater, A.C. unit, and stove are all at least 15 years old. Instead of spending the money to purchase appliances that actually work, the management of Newcastle Apartments uses the "temporary patch-up" method on these old appliances and plumbing, making them work for just a little bit longer, but ultimately not solving the problems.

The walls are pretty thin, and it doesn't help that the majority of the other tenants are rude and inconsiderate, and play their music at max volumes during day and night. Another negative of the apartments due to their age is the creaky flooring/ceiling between upstairs and downstairs apartments...I can hear every step the tenant who lives above me makes.

To top all this off, the management is somewhat rude, and unresponsive to requests I have made. I have requested on every occassion that I have had to report appliance problems that I be contacted at work or on my cell phone when maintenance is working on the problem, and have NEVER been contacted.

I am extremely happy to be moving out of Newcastle at the end of this month, and I would advise anyone who is thinking of signing a lease at Newcastle to know what you are getting into - very old appliances that have constant problems, loud and inconsiderate neighbors, thin walls and creaking floors/ceilings, and a rude onsite management staff.
