This is absolutely the WORST place I have ever lived. I will be giving my 60 days notice early to ensure that I do not have to remain here for another year.
My complaints are numerous. The management has changed 1/2 dozen times already. I have already been transferred from my apartment once and may be transferred again because they will not "release" me from the lease. I was transferred the first time because there was a water leak in my closet that they could not fix. And when I would call and leave messages -- they took over a week to return calls or get back about the requests I made in person at the office. I lived with all my closet belongings strewn out in my apartment for a couple months before they moved me.
Then they began a very large and very loud construction project. The noise is very intrusive and originally began at 730 am and would continue well past 700 pm. There was also debris, nails, insulation, ladders and cables (hanging from ladders) strewn all over the sidewalk. My 8 year old would normally walk this short sidewalk from her school bus to our apartment. I had to begin escorting her through the cables that were strewn over the sidewalk (hanging at waist height from one building to another ladder). I began to complain. The office manager's responses were very very rude and dismissive (they said there was nothing they could do because they had hired a private company to do the renovations (not required-- but to beautify (ie-- raise the rent on these crappy apartments).
I contacted the Austin Tenant's Council and they advised me to write letters and send them certified mail. Only after 2 letters and several other emails and threats to contact Austin Code Enforcement (sent not only to this property manager, but the regional managers in San Antonio)-- finally they agreed to end the noise at 5:30 and to keep the construction/debris more maintained for safety.
Then they started remodeling the apartment next to mine that shares a wall. They were banging on the shared wall at 645pm so hard that my floor was shaking. I called the office and reminded them that they said the construction would end at 5:30 (you have to understand that this noise was so loud from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm that we could not watch tv, read, hold conversations or have dinner in our dining room). This time they told me there was nothing they could because this was a separate project and a separate private company had been hired. I talked to the workers next door and they said they had another 30 minutes of work to do tonight. It is now 7:00 pm and my mom just arrived from driving 2 hours from out of town for dinner-- I've cooked steaks-- and they'll be banging on my wall so loud that the floor shakes until 7:30 pm!@#$%^&*'
I took a friend's advice and called 311 (non-emergency) and the police dispatcher could hear the noise over the phone said it was "unreasonable" and they would send some policemen right out to help me. I was nice--so I told the workers (they're probably illegals and I don't want them to get in trouble-- they're only doing their job) that if they didn't stop the noise-- the police had agreed to come out-- and the noise stopped immediately (well now that it was after 7pm).
This very same evening we find a notice on our door that we are in noncompliance because we have not paid our pet deposits (we have one cat and one dog). We had paid both pet deposits-- But now we had to order a copy of the check from my bank to prove we had in fact paid the pet deposit. With our proof--the apartments first told us they'd have to "research" the issue-- but eventually had to admit that it was their mistake for "not applying the $300 to a pet deposit"-- well what did they "apply" it to when they deposited the check'
They are not only disorganized and poorly run-- but they are rude and they retaliate when you are only trying to protect your family and ensure your right to quiet enjoyment of your leased property.
