Review for Gables Apartments

I lived at these apartments with two friends and we had a HORRIBLE experience.

At first, it seemed like the management was friendly and helpful, but that seems as though it was just as fake as any other apartment complex. The property is owned by DTI and we recently found out that not a single apartment locating service in town suggests living in any DTI owned property.

We had various problems with the apartment, after moving in during January in below 30 degree weather we found out our heater was not functioning. It took many work orders to finally get the problem fixed. After the weather changed and it started warming up, we found out the AC didn't work properly either. They never solved this problem the entire time we lived there.

At one point our water began to run in a dirty brown color, we found out a pipe busted under our apartment and that was the cause of the discolored water. Later, a main pipe to the entire complex busted underground and they had to fix that as well.

Some of this stuff happens all the time at apartments, the difference here is that the maintenance is so poor and the apartments are so old that these things happen ALL of the time at The Gables.

Another absolutely horrifying thing that happened in our building was a "bed bug" infestation. We realized we had the bugs and immediately contacted management, who treated us really horribly. The woman we spoke with was rude, and not forthcoming with information. She actually tried to tell us that we probably had the bugs for months and never realized it. WE KNOW WE DID NOT: After speaking with the exterminator for over an hour we found out that the cause was likely the apartment adjacent to ours. He also informed us that the management claimed WE were the "problem" to him as well. He actually turned around and told the apartment management that we were not the problem and our apartment was well kept and clean.

Though they have remodeled some parts of the apartments for aesthetic purposes, the buildings are poorly insulated and have many problems. Though we had a 2/2 apartment and kept our A/C at over 80 during the day and 75 at night the thermometer read at 85 constantly- yet we were paying a $200 electric bill. Now part of that is due to the 20-30 year old Air conditioner, and part of it is due to the poor insulation.
