Let Me Know When Management Isn't A Front For Slum

I lived here 1997-99 and liked it so much I moved back in 2001. Too bad the new management company ran this into the ground.

Let's start with the 9 points listed. 1. Security: Lots of low income apartments in the surrounding area. It's very convenient to the creek so it's quite easy to slip in and out without a car. 2. Parking: Plenty of parking since there's a problem keeping residents. The two apartments above me were vacant about 50% of the time. 3: Appearance: It's fairly well kept *now* but the driveways and sidewalks were a horror story. 4. Management and office staff: Very good the first time around. The second time started out well but they put in all new people midway through my second stay. I heard all sorts of complaints by the tenants who were moving out. I just thought they had an ax to grind. Once I had to get something fixed it was pure hell. I haven't even mentioned the hot water outage over Xmas for 4 days but when it happened in my first time I lived here, the original management did everything possible to get the problem corrected *immediately* and gave out some gifts to the residents affected as well as a spare apartment for tenants to use for showers. The Xmas (and subsequent) outages in the second (2001-2004) time I lived here? Nothing.

5. Maintenance: All good until they drove out or fired the folks in 2003. After that it was amateur hour. The bathroom repairs they did were straight out of a section 8 housing project. I'd finally asked the management to look at it prior to signing a new lease and got blown off until the following day and someone showed up at 5:58pm. This was after sitting there 15 minutes in the office while they signed a new tenant to a lease and holding my tongue. I was then told they didn't have time to take the 3 minutes to inspect it that day.

6. Condition of unit: No real complaints except that it is old. The HVAC blew out and it took two days to fix, the bathtub rotted out and it took another three days to fix.

7. Noise level: Deteriorated notably at the end of my stay but to be fair, that's not really under their control.

8. Overall rating: If they ever get Tammy, Queen of the Slumlords out of management there it might be worth a shot. Just be aware the units aren't brand new. Except for the last 6 months there I enjoyed living there.

9. Recommend to a friend: No. But if they wanted to live there I'd insist on checking out the place and use the benefit of my experience to determine if they cleaned up their act.
