Hamblin Park Had Potential

When we first moved into our unit here in Hamblin Park, we thought we'd hit the jackpot. It was brand-new, two stories, and included an attached garage for a reasonable amount of rent per month. Too good to be true?

Even though I'm beginning to hate this complex, there are a few good points. First, the details are nice. Nice fixtures, molding along the floors, three bedrooms, nice doors, great cabinets, lovely tile floors in the kitchens/bathrooms, nice carpet, lots of closet space, and a vaulted ceiling in the master bedroom.

Now, for the bad stuf: First, when we moved in, we had to actually clean the house ourselves. I've never, in all the years of renting, ever had to clean an apartment to MOVE INTO IT. Secondly, there were damages to the unit that I wanted to have noted for the record, since the place was brand-spanking new, and I knew we'd get dinged for it on move-out. The walk-through we tried to plan with one of the maintenance people never happened. Third, the pest control stinks. I've never seen so many freaking bugs INSIDE a place than I have here. Fourth, it became apparent the first summer we lived here that any kind of lawn maintenance/window washing/groundskeeping was nil to none. Weeds constantly spring up around driveways/fences, and don't expect any damages to the complex itself to get fixed. There's been holes all throughout the fences that look spectacularly tacky, still waiting to be repaired. Fifth, the maintenance doesn't get any better inside the unit, save for heat and air conditioning. If anything else aside from those items is broken, it'll stay broke. Sixth, going back to the groundskeeping--or lack thereof--there are cigarette butts EVERYWHERE, even on my front porch, which is interesting when you consider the fact that no one in my unit smokes. Seventh, the sprinkler systems that are in place to water the grass and keep it from looking completely burned out aren't placed very well, so the sides of the grass are green, while there is a brown streak down the entire middle--not to mention the dead patch right in front of my unit due to the sprinklers that are broken. Eighth, and possibly the most annoying aspect of living here, NOTHING EVER GETS DONE, EVEN IF YOU ASK OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I can't say how many times I've asked to get certain items fixed/repaired, only to have some sorry attempt at placating me thrown my way.

This place started out as a wonderful place to live, but sadly, I think in a decade this place will be a complete dump. I don't know if many others within the complex have decided to complain formally, but I know in talking to neighbors that they have similar complaints. For people possibly looking to move in, don't bother! It's not worth the aggravation!
