Review for Mt. Vernon Square Apartments

Do yourself a favor and stay away. For the first 18 months of my 24 total months here there was no such thing as a trash dumpster. Each pair of buildings had a designated parking spot to dump trash. It wasnt until the county threatened them with tickets for unsanitary conditions that they put in trash dumpsters. The sad thing is up to 4 or 5 buildings all have to share one tiny dumpster and it inevitably ends up full with trash spilling all over the ground on almost a daily. If you dont return their guest parking pass issued to you when you first sign a lease you can be charged up to $100 dollars for it. Thats awful expensive for a piece of yellow construction paper. The walls in apartments are EXTREMELY thin. You will have no privacy in your bedroom because a simple conversation can be heard in the next apt very easily. If your apt should flood (mine did 3 times) then good luck getting maint to clean it up. The first two times they wanted to use my towels to clean it up and after that their solution was to just put an industrial blower on it. This will be quite helpful when your apt floods at 11pm and you have to pick between letting the carpet air dry and get a good nights sleep or staying up all night and letting the blower dry your carpet. I waited 2 months for maint to come and fix a whole they had to hack into one of my walls to fix a neighbors apt leak. Never in 3 apt floods was it ever offered to have my carpets cleaned, I had to pay for it myself. Security is a giant JOKE and every kid you find bouncing footballs off of your car or running from car to car hitting or kicking them to see who has a car alarm knows it too. Security can even be found chilling at the 7-11 down the street or lounging in one of the cul de sacs late at night. Make sure that you give enought notice that your are not going to renew your lease and read that fine print. It says they can charge you up to 3 months rent for not giving 60 days notice. When I mentioned that this policy could really screw somebody if they missed the deadline the "customer service" person (the overweight gal at the front desk) said "yeah you could get screwed pretty bad...hope you get yours in on time." Hope you like feral cats, possums and racoons cause they are all well fed by your neighbors on their back porch and nobody seems to mind. The 24 hour call center to take care of your maint problems is really just a call center who trys to page a maint worker. If they dont have your pager on then you might as well wait till the next day. While the signs do seem to advetise a great deal, the problems you will have and issues that will come up will cost you more than most are willing to deal with.
