The Buchanan used to be a quiet(er) residence with great advantages for those without a car. But the local grocery is no more, and most residents do their shopping at Pentagon City. Still, Buchanan management seems to think they ought to be able to charge Pentagon City prices, and theyve ratcheted up the rent recently in an obscene amount by tacking on utility charges. You dont have any control over the charges because the units are too old to be metered. If youre unfortunate enough to live on an upper floor, youll be sweating eight months of the year even with the heating vents closed, you could grow orchids here this is no exaggeration. If youre a light sleeper, youll get no rest if your apartment faces 23rd Street. The management doesnt call this section of the building the low side for nothing. The lobby was remodeled about three years ago, but the apartment hallways are shabby. If you dont need access to the airport, dont live here. Front desk folks are pleasant enough, but thats an insufficient reason to live here.
