I've Lived Here A Year...

Crackheads patrol the streets around my apartment and bums like to sleep/hang out in the parklot in the back. We are only two blocks from the police station so if you have a problem they can get here real fast...but they are constantly at an apartment across the street anyway!

If you're willing to pay $60 a month for parking you'll be fine...other than that it's all street parking, one side of Grace St is untimed but it's hard to get parking there unless you're real lucky. And if you leave your car parked for 2 hours and 1 minute you can count on getting a parking ticket real quick. (although they tend to not ticket on weekends which is nice)

After they realized they needed a ashtray of some sort on the porch everything's been pretty clean. They have a cleaning lady who comes once a week or so to mop floors and wash windows and what not. (in the common areas of the building...not your apartment!) There are two rooms off the main lobby that are supposed to be a game room and study room but I've been living here for almost a year and they haven't done anything to them yet. There is a Pepsi machine and Candy vending in one of the rooms but that's been there since I moved in...they took out the Coke machine, boo!

The office staff is great! They are friendly and very helpful. Lynn (property manager) even gave me her cell phone for emergencies! I really couldn't ask for better!! A++++

My only problem with maintenace is the guy comes early in the morning, parks in the back parking lot and blasts his crappy music...it's right under my window and really drives me crazy! I've yelled at him a bunch of times but he just keeps doing it! I've never had to call maintenace for a problem so I don't know how they respond to individual calls.

Most of the apartments are really nice. They've only been apartments for 2 years come Aug so everything's pretty new. I haven't had any problems in that area but the building itself is pretty old considering it was a hospital in like the 1800's with three add-ons over the years to expand. If you get an apartment in the older section watch out for water damage. They say they're currently working on it but the bricks weren't sealed properly (or maybe not at all) so water damage has been a real big deal. And my friends AC hasn't worked for the past 2 months or so and they haven't fixed it yet.

It's basically a dorm without rules so noise is a big factor. I have to admit that a lot of it comes from my roommate and his friends...but we'll be out in Aug so maybe it'll get better in that respect. It's mostly college kids who like to party hard but everyone is really friendly here (I've made a lot of friends) so if you knock on their door and ask them to quiet down, they will.

I'm not living here next year because: 1) I want a puppy and they only allow caged animals 2) rent is too expensive, I've got a two bedroom for $1160 (we have three people living here and that's the only way we could afford it but I want my own room!!) 3) I want a garden/yard

If you have the money and don't mind crackheads (they don't bother you too much and if you want to live in the city you'll have to deal with it anyway) then go ahead and live here!
