Apartment Reviews for Chase Gayton Apartments
It is not what it used to be

I have lived at Chase Gayton for a few years and I used to really like it. The complex is a bit older (build in the 80's) but management did a good job at keeping it in a good condition. Rent increases were kept moderate and you never had the feeling that you needed to look for a newer apartment for the money.
Everything changed when the current owners (Colonial Village) took over. Rent increased by nearly 20% last year! The reason given was that living expenses for Richmond had gone up a lot and so a steep rent increase was justified. Well, living expenses might have gone up quite a bit in Richmond but nearly 20% for an apartment that is more than 20 years old?!?
The floorboards are thin and extremly squeaky. You can hear your upstairs neighbor walk around the apartment all the time. The walls are rather thin as well, so don't be surprised if you hear the washing machine next door running (especially nice after 11pm). Also, the complex itself is slowly but surely falling apart. Brushes that were lost in a brush fire last year were never replaced, the balustrades of several balconies are damaged (pieces broken out and missing) and don't get fixed etc. etc.
I found reviews on several other Colonial Village properties around the country and it seems that this is happening with a lot of properties that Colonial Properties took over.
I used to recommend the place to friends in the past but unfortunately, I cannot do so anymore.
