Crime And Punishment

First off, let me start by saying this apartment complex could be really good if it were run in a more consumer friendly manner. As it is right now, the leasing office does not offer an option to buy out your lease for people who would like to leave early. Now this wouldn't be a problem, if it wasn't for the fact that the area of Everett that this apartment complex is in is probably one of the worst neighborhoods for crime in Washington State. i.e. www.komotv.com/news/5029836.html for a good example of the crime I'm talking about. The noise here is insane, if it's not loud huge bass thumping at 1 am, it's the under insulated ceilings creaking, people playing random (mostly Mariachi or Country) music very loud at all hours of the night, people feeling it is okay to sit outside an apartment at 3 am and honk their horns until whomever they are looking comes to them, and people using the stairs on the way up to their apartments as stomping areas in order to take the mud off their boots. For those of you who don't understand why this is a problem, go into one of the middle or downstairs apartments and have a buddy of yours clean their boots on your stairs. Unless the Copperstone apartments alone are built so poorly that the noise bursts through otherwise sound proof walls, than it's a practice used by people who either dont know, or dont have any consideration for other tenants. Lets touch on the maintenance real quick. The maintenance isn't terrible. There are a few good parts to this apartment complex, and this is one of them. If you have an issue, and it's an emergency, it WILL be taken care of right away. If you have an issue, and it's a non-emergency, it will be taken care of the following day (most likely, unless there are a lot of known issues that day). However, when we first moved in, I had to call the maintenance people 3 separate times for a clogging of one toilet. The 2nd and 3rd time I had to call them should never have happened, if for no other reason that the way I found out about the toilet still being clogged after the first time they snaked it out, was by testing it and watching it overflow with nothing but water in the toilet bowl. So basically, they came, did some work, did NOT test the toilet, left and called it good. Then after the 3rd call to the office about the SAME issue, they told me that I would be charged 50 dollars per maintance call after that. Even though the problem should never have lasted past the first call, and the items clogging the toilet were spoons and toothbrushes that were flushed by the previous tenants children (most likely). I touched on this earlier, but lets do it again. Security... there is none. No one patrols the parking lots, no one patrols the apartment area unless a crime is reported. The only person on the look out for anything is the apartment managers being on the look out for someone parted in a numbered spot where they shouldn't be. Those people are taken away quickly and efficiently. However the random gang beating, or the occasional murder at the appartment complex apparently is well within their idea of "acceptable" living conditions. Let me finish this review by stating that many people move here because they are left with no other choice. Unfortunate circumstances have either dictated that they needed to move in a certain time frame, to a certain area, money limit, etc. This is no excuse to look at them as second class people, and not give them the security and action they deserve. This place of living should be as safe as any other place you could live, and making it so would take nothing more than a little bit more in depth of a background check before renting, providing security or police patrols regularly around the area, and all around showing a little more interest in the living conditions of EVERYONE who lives there.

Do NOT move here if you are looking to move to a decent neighborhood. Do NOT move here if you want to live in a flexible place that will work WITH you on things you're having conflicts about. Do NOT move here if you have children. Do NOT move here if you unless you have a high tolerance to noise and creepy people walking around the parking lot at 12 am. Do NOT move here at all is basically what I'm saying, this apartment complex should be condemned.
