Where do I begin? The list of complaints I have about this complex is endless...
I moved in here a few months ago. Unfortunately, while I had seen a couple other apartments in this complex, I did not see the one that I ended up renting until I moved in. I moved in to find that nothing was done as far as maintenance or cleaning. The blinds were filthy, as were the closet doors, the walls, and the refrigerator. Trash was left behind in the closets, and some items were missing. But the worst? My carpet, which is the oldest carpet I’ve ever seen, was filthy with gum, candy, food, and other debris ground into it all over the place in every room. The carpet is so old and worn down I can’t even vacuum it thoroughly, and I own a $600 professional-quality vacuum cleaner. Even worse than that, was the presence of urine that could be smelled in several areas of the apartment. I complained, and got the most baffling response. Essentially, the response was a blank look along with: “Yeah, and your problem is...?” Apparently they consider urine all over your carpet to be “acceptable and rentable condition”. To this day, NOTHING has been done to remedy the disgusting condition of this carpet. I had to buy my own carpeting to cover the floor just so my toddler and baby sons wouldn’t be crawling around on someone else’s filth. If I had the money and time to do so, I would sue this place.
If you are a non-smoker like I am, you will find that smoking is a serious problem in this community. I have a neighbor who smokes in her bathroom and exhausts it out of her bathroom fan, and since her vent is on the roof right next to mine, all of her smoke comes pouring into my fan and into my apartment. Also, people are constantly smoking in the stairwells even though there are signs saying not to, and since my front door doesn’t fit properly in the frame and leaves a huge gap, I get tons of smoke coming into my apartment that way too.
This place is not kid-friendly at all, even though they claim to cater to families. There is no playground. There isn’t even any grassy areas. They removed all the grass and replaced it with rocks. Great. That means kids are always throwing rocks around all over the place. I’m constantly tripping on rocks on the walkways, in the parking lot, in the laundry rooms, etc. I’m in a second-floor apartment and there are even rocks on the outside ledge of my windows, where kids have thrown them up there. Another side effect of there being no kid-friendly play area whatsoever is that kids are constantly playing in the stairwells making a huge racket and leaving trash and food all over. They play in the parking lots, often sitting on—and damaging—other people’s cars. They play in the dumpsters and drag the trash all over the place. They also play and make a huge mess in the laundry rooms. Which brings me to my next complaint...
The laundry room doors only lock on the bottom floor. The top-floor door has no lock on it, so kids are always going down there to play, and they make a huge mess leaving rocks, dirt, and wrappers all over the place. Maintenance only cleans the laundry rooms about once every 3 months, so it gets pretty bad in there. How am I to know that these kids won’t be messing with my laundry like they mess with everything else? Kids should not be playing in public entryways and in laundry rooms! But nobody does ANYTHING about it.
Security here is pitiful. The maintenance here never changes light bulbs, so there are lights in the parking lot, by the buildings, and by the storage units that have been out for months. I complained about the light that was out by my storage unit, because anybody could break in undetected in the darkness. Two months later, that light has still not been replaced.
There is also a pest problem here and management apparently does not hire any exterminators. In my storage unit I found two black widow spiders, which of course are poisonous and dangerous spiders. A friend of mine found a bee’s nest in his building’s laundry room and he complained to management. They told him, “Oh, well there’s nothing we can do right now because we don’t have a maintenance man here.” They apparently are too cheap to hire an exterminator like most professional management companies do! I don’t know about you, but I sure wouldn’t like to be attacked by bees when I do my laundry, or be bitten by poisonous spiders while accessing my storage unit. But, like everything else, management refuses to do anything.
That’s the bottom line: Management here is extremely lazy and unprofessional. I have never seen a more unprofessional management company in my entire life and I have lived at many different apartment communities all over the Northwest. These people take the cake. They continually ignore work orders, and never follow up on any complaints. They never make any effort to communicate with you. You have to hunt them down and harass them to get ANYTHING done. And to top it off, the manager here is extremely rude and has a serious attitude problem. She acts like everything is your fault, and like you are putting her out by complaining about her management and her maintenance team’s poor service.
I can honestly say that I have never lived at a more disgusting, unprofessional, unfriendly community in my entire life. It is a SLUM by all accounts, and the manager is your classic SLUMLADY.
The worst part about this is that there is NO EXCUSE for this terrible management and service. Yes, this community is dirt-cheap, but there are other communities in town (with much larger, newer apartments!) that are just as cheap and are INIFINITELY cleaner, safer, and more professionally managed and maintained.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Especially if you have children and are at all concerned about the health and safety of your family.
