Apartment Reviews for Highland Greens Senior Apartments - Mount Vernon

My mother has lived at Highland Greens for almost a year now. She was not sure senior apt living would be her cup of tea having always lived in a private home. After seeing the apt and location she agreed to give it a try.

Signing her up and filling out paperwork took about an hour. Deb Phillips, the manager was efficient and a very pleasant helpful person.

Mom decided anything would be better than living with one of us and decided this would be an adventure. Her apt is bright, cozy, and inviting. She is on the first floor and her backdoor opens onto a wooded area. There are squirrels, birds, even a deer family strolling by on occasion. She has a small herb garden and some other garden planting is avaliable. She can barberque on her covered patio every night winter or summer.

Some of the residents do gentle yoga or chair exercises twice a week in the third floor sun room. Once a month there is a potluck, For those who want a little change at no cost there might be a movie on Saturday night. Bring your own popcorn and beverage. Depending on where you sit you can bring your pillow and blanket.

She says calling the maintinance man for a plumbing problem is much easier than getting a husband to fix it. We have a complaint. She has met new friends and has become busy once again. Our used to be drop everything mom to run the grandkids somewhere cannot always be located. She is visitng someone,gone, busy or she has learned to screen our calls so she can have her independence and a home of her own.

We feel safe knowing she is happy and in a comfortable place she enjoys.
Most of all she is happy and if mom is happy, everyone is happy.
