I know that seeing a review that says "do not rent here" and then another that says "a great place to live" is quite confusing, but please here me out. I am not the landlord or the child of the landlord, nor have any relation to the landlord. I am just a former tenant who would like to clear up the other person's bad review.
My experience with DMZ properties was no where near that described in the other review. I understand that different people have different experiences, but the discrepancy between the two leads me to believe that the other reviewer may have been exaggerating.
The landlords are incredibly nice and understanding, and great people to work with. My place was clean (no cockroaches), and any problems or questions I had were taken care of or answered in a very timely fashion. My unit had new carpet and there is new carpet and a fresh coat of paint in the hallways and stairways. The place is very comfortable and the location can't be beat- access to the lake is right across the street; it is located on the 30 bus route (which goes to UWM campus and downtown); and it's close to many great bars, restaurants, and shops.
True the lobby is not locked, but the doors to the hallways are. I never had anything stolen from my mailbox. In fact, my fiance sent me flowers and they waited in the unlocked lobby the whole day until I got back that night.
The residents are very nice as well. The only small complaint I might have is that my upstairs neighbor walked (or should I say stomped?) around really late at night, which woke me up on a couple of occasions. But that's apartment living for ya.
Overall, I had a great experience with DMZ Properties and would recommend it if asked.
