Human diversity is manifested at many levels in multiple ways. When I refer to diversity in the context of core UNH commitments, I have a more focused meaning--the opportunity for full participation and freedom from discrimination for groups of people historically excluded or under-represented in higher education and the broader American society. Higher education is the entrée to many professions and opportunities in our society, and I believe that UNH should be a proactive and proud partner in breaking down the barriers that face so many in our culture. We therefore must and will pay particular attention to the representation and experiences of students, faculty, and staff who are members of groups who have suffered historically and who continue to face unusual barriers and exclusion.
